My Thoughts on the Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver Avengers: Age of Ultron Set Photos

Howdy ladies and gentlemen, time to talk about some big news that hit the web yesterday (at least I think it was yesterday) and no it’s not the awesome Days of Future Past trailer, but the first set of set pictures featuring the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron film. Now I’m not one who likes to dive too deep into set pictures as I like to keep the film as fresh as possible and avoid any secrets they may have for the film in question. Having said that though, I have seen set pictures and videos of a few films in production including Captain America: The First Avenger, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises and Thor: The Dark World just to name a few. So when I heard that there were set pictures for this film with cast actually on-set I had to look. So now that the internet has had some time to adjust to them, what are my thoughts on them? Well read on and find out.

Oh and by the way I’m only going to do a one photo per person. Okay? Then let’s begin.

Set Film set sequel The Avengers

So as you can see here it is Jeremy Renner back as Hawkeye and he looks exactly the same. Now that be interpreted as one of two things: 1) His character didn’t feel the need to change his costume. 2) He’s possibly gonna get a costume change during the film. OR 3) No one cares about his character to give him a costume change. To be honest it is a bit random, but at the same time I won’t lose sleep over it. I liked his character in Avengers so I look forward to seeing him get more screen time and become a character who isn’t the butt of everyone’s jokes.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson on set of 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Next up we have Aaron-Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver. At first I was kind of underwhelmed with his look considering how cool the concept art for his character is and normally in Marvel Studios films the concept art is pretty close to what the end result will be like. That being said, after looking at it again I do like it. His look just seems like a more streamlined and updated version of what was done in the comics, sure he’s not silver and green in his costume and his hair isn’t slicked back, but I think I can see some similarities to the version of the character that was in Marvel Avengers Alliance. Plus I can still see the character in Johnson and for this Marvel Cinematic Universe I feel like it works.

Celebrity Sightings

And lastly you have Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch who in my opinion is the best-looking out the cast so far. Like I said in my blog post when the concept art came out, I believe that it is impossible to do a live-action version of this character with her original costume. So when I see what the costume designers have done I can’t help but feel happy and like what I’m seeing. I think Olsen looks cool, a bit hardcore and hot in her costume and it is incredible to see how she’s hoped from role to role in recent times and looks so different in each one.

You can see more of the set pictures at

Well that’s it from me for now, what do you think of this and the other set pictures? Are you loving it or are you hating? Leave you thoughts below yo! 😀

Marvel Reveals Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch From Avengers: Age of Ultron

So it seems like last night was a pretty big night for comic news on the Marvel side of town as viewers of Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe got to see some images relating to Marvel’s upcoming Phase Two & Three films. But the main bit of visual info I want to talk about is the concept art of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, two key players that will be showing up in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

So here the images are:

If you were to ask me about my opinion on the look of these characters I would say I like them, a lot actually and they are a lot better than I could have imagined. What I like about them is that they are familiar and yet grounded in our reality and that’s what Marvel have been doing with a lot of the more bizarre/complex superhero/villain costumes. And while I can hear many fanboys in the corners of the internet whining about the new looks of these characters, especially Scarlet Witch, for me I think the designers could have done a lot worse.

So let’s talk about the character uniforms starting with Scarlet Witch. While she is definitely a far cry from her original costume, I feel for the MCU she has a modern look that while not necessarily comic book-esque, still has a unique style to it. And then there’s Quicksilver who in all honesty looks pretty cool, he has pretty cool hair, his costume looks sleek and fast and I can see aspects of the comic character in there. And my god that this look like a better improvement over the version from X-Men: Days of Future Past, no doubt in my mind about that.

Obviously there were more concept images uploaded online related to Avengers 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, but I just wanted to focus on these and give my quick thoughts on them here on my blog. If you wish to see more have a look at the gallery on superherohype yo.

Elizabeth Olsen on Her ‘More Rooted’ Avengers: Age of Ultron Costume

Howdy ladies and gents, time for some Marvel film news and today I deliver the first of three news stories I consider to be relevant to my life and everyone else who is a fan or at least curious about Marvel Studios’ upcoming films. So this first story focuses once again on Elizabeth Olsen in Avengers 2. The following info comes from superherohype:

“With production on the much-anticipated sequel already underway in Johannesburg, Avengers: Age of Ultron star Elizabeth Olsen spoke with Total Film (via Super Hero Movie News) about her Scarlet Witch costume, which she says will mark a departure from the traditional comic book design.

“I don’t think Joss ever would have hired me, honestly, if he wanted me to wear those outfits,” she says. “I am not a professional athlete and nor am I a model. Wearing those costumes wouldn’t be fun for anyone who wasn’t those things. He already had a different idea. It respects and involves the comic book character, but it’s different. More rooted. It’s for someone today… If someone walked around wearing what she wore in the comics, people would stop and say, ‘What the hell… she thinks she’s a superhero!'”

Well her comments and to be honest I think all of us who know of her original costume expected some kind of change in the live-action adaptation. Scarlet Witch’s costume (no matter how sexy some cosplayers make it look) could never work in a live action film, it is impractical and looks quite ridiculous regardless of whether she were a hero or villain. Some things need to change. It is why Captain America and Hawkeye have been reworked so much and they’ve turned out a lot better thanks to their modern film costumes. I think Whedon and the people at Marvel are smart, they will find a way to give Scarlet Witch a costume that has some similarities to the original but will be mostly new. I am still very interested to see how Olsen will portray this character, very excited, need 2015 now yo.

Elizabeth Olsen Confirms That She’ll Play Scarlet Witch, Plus Additional Info!

Hi people of the interweb, time for some more comic book related film news and this one while not overly surprising is worth talking about. So recently Elizabeth Olsen confirmed what most of us on the net knew already; that she would be taking on the role of Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. But now we have some additional info which gives us just a tiny bit of info on the way the character will be handled and how Olsen will approach the role.

The following info comes from ComicBookMovie:

“After sealing the deal with Marvel Studios and now doing press for Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, Elizabeth Olsen has been liberated to discuss her role in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron as Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch. Nerdy Rotten Scoundrel reminded the actress that Samuel L. Jackson had “confirmed” her involvement before she could and that he was excited to work with her. “I don’t know if we’ll work together,” responded Olsen. “But we’ll be doing Avengers together. I don’t know if we’ll be doing any scenes together though,” she added.

When asked how excited she was to be joining the sequel to last year’s highest-grossing film, The Avengers, Elizabeth explained, “Yes, I’ve become like such a nerd about it. I’m having so much fun right now. It’s really really fun to read those comics and its really exciting. The majority of this stuff isn’t relevant to what we’re gonna be doing. But I’m loving it and it’s a lot of fun.”

As for the Scarlet Witch’s costume, Olsen says she doesn’t know much about it, “but it’s not probably what people would expect.” She adds, “I’ve been doing homework and reading comic books as my homework right now.” In a separate interview with blogger Carla Hay, Elizabeth Olsen was asked why she’s excited for the project. The actress admitted: “I’m feeling really excited about Scarlet Witch because she’s really complicated. It’s really fun stuff. I’m kind of tired of playing myself right now, like, versions of myself. Doing something like [Scarlet Witch] sounds a lot cooler.”
UPDATE: Speaking more about her costume in the Age of Ultron, Olsen told Ain’t it Cool News that “I know what the costume is going to be more or less like. I’m just excited that she’s never been portrayed in film or on television before.”

According to Screenrant, Elizabeth Olsen was pressed even further about Scarlet Witch during the Oldboy press conference, as she was asked how she’ll ground the Marvel heroine as opposed to the real-world characters she has played. “The same way, I think! I actually feel really good that I just did a play because it requires so much imagination, you know? To acknowledge the fact that all these people are here, but you’re making up this room that your in that you’re not in, or whatever… So far I’m just doing a lot of reading right now on Scarlet Witch and it’s really exciting. But the imagination, like to a child, and like running around in a play yard is what it feels like right now. And that sounds like so much fun, but you still want to approach it with the same kind of like ‘No, this is where she’s from,’ and it’s real. And that’s what’s fun about it. Let them put on the costume or do the special whatever-they-need-to-do to make it look special, but I’ll just do my part – it just has more extreme things to it. [Laughs] I’m like really excited about Scarlet Witch.”

Finally, when asked to elaborate on her comments above, Elizabeth Olsen went on to reveal some things she’s found out about Wanda Maximoff since reading Marvel comics. “The most recent thing I learned – I don’t even know if it has anything [to do with the film], it’s just fun to read these comics – it’s just so fun! Like, she’s a ‘nexus,’ like she’s the only human being from this universe who can communicate with paranormal things and the past and the future and other universes; like to me that’s pretty incredible! [Laughs] Like just thinking about that is amazing! To touch things and know where they’ve been, that’s crazy!” Safe to say Olsen is very excited! “

So what have we gotten from these interviews? Well Olsen sounds pretty damn excited, okay, sarcasm over, but seriously how excited is she? Haha.

From what I understand is that Olsen is aware of the source material and is reading the comics too. She she’s to understand the character’s personality, powers and knows that there will have to be some changes from the comics to the big screen. I do like when actors/actresses take the time to look at the comic books. So far so good right? I’m pretty down with this actress taking on the role, she seems like a legit good address and she’s pretty to boot, I have no quarrels with her at all.

Now some sad little nerds are complaining that Olsen looks too young to play the character and to them I say really? Come on now she’s 24, that’s old enough for me yo. Plus add to the fact that character ages and looks change all the time in comics depending on the artist, series and time period of the stories.

Let’s just see how she fares in the film with her acting talent shall we, okay? Good. 😛

Joss Whedon Confirms Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Talks Iron Man Returning

I know this news story is technically one day late but it is not only Avengers 2-related but Joss Whedon-related so it has to be blogged about yo. As per usual the following news comes from superherohype:

“A rumor started a few weeks ago that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be joining the team in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Further signs continued to point towards the characters’ inclusion in the film and now writer/director Joss Whedon has confirmed the characters will appear in an interview with IGN. In the interview, he spoke about their involvement in the film.

“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

We’ve learned exclusively at SuperheroHype that Irish actress Saoirse Ronan is the “prototype” for their version of the Scarlet Witch, but no casting has taken place.

Whedon also spoke about how the ending to Iron Man 3 (spoiler ahead!) showed a potentially changed Tony, but he’s still tied to The Avengers.

“Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed’ — he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’”

Casting for The Avengers 2 is still coming together with many rumors flying around about potential actors being replaced. Regardless of who ultimately assembles for the sequel, Marvel’s The Avengers 2 hits the big screen on May 1, 2015.”

While the new information we get isn’t that big it does confirm a few things and makes me just that bit more hopeful about the future of this sequel. Firstly Whedon confirmed the appearance of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the brother and sister who are obviously from the X-Men universe as the children of Magneto. Now loads of people especially comic book fans called this out instantly but it’s always great to get confirmation from the man himself. I like how Whedon states that these characters won’t necessarily be making things easer for the Avengers group and that is cool, what is a film without a good bit of conflict?

As for the deal with Iron Man I’m hoping he will return and I’m glad that Whedon has basically said that if the Avengers call for him that he’ll come along. I don’t see Avengers 2 working without Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, though again if RDJ doesn’t want to play the character anymore then I reckon he should be killed in the sequel. It would be super effective and would add a heavy dramatic element to the upcoming sequel. But I highly doubt Marvel would go that route, they’re not brave enough for that. Either way I look forward to seeing Tony Stark/Iron Man return in the next Avengers film in 2015.
