Random Blog 11: Please Mr. Kennedy

Howdy ladies and gents and welcome to another edition of the Random Blog series, today I’m going to be talking about a song that has attached itself to my head for just around a month now and is so addictive that I just have to talk about it. The song in question is called “Please Mr. Kennedy“.

Now for those of you who watch films frequently, you’ll know what song I am referring to immediately, but for those not in the know here’s a quick summary. The recent Coen brothers film, Inside Llewyn Davis came out in the UK last month and while the main response from the film is positive, there a great number of people that disliked the film passionately. Love it or hate it, one can’t deny the quality of the soundtrack which is just amazing. But there is one song in particular that stands out from the rest and that is “Please Mr. Kennedy“.

Haha, good stuff. Loads of people agree that this scene is arguably the best part of the film because it is so light-hearted, silly, fun and hilarious. Literally after the film ended this was the song that I was thinking about for hours afterward and when I found the song on YouTube I was all over it. I think because of the moody and quite depressing nature of the film, when  a song like this comes so out of left field, you can’t help but get down with it because of the charm and upbeat nature.

I fell in love with song not only because its funny but also because it sounded good too. While I’m not overly keen on folk music, there are exceptions to the rule and this song just had me. The instrumental side of things is gorgeous and then there’s the vocals, Oscar Isaac has a lovely voice, Justin Timberlake is a proven talent in the world of music and he continues to excel here too and Adam Driver’s hilarious contribution with his bellowing voice was especially fun. Isaac and Timberlake compliment each other very well and their vocals blend like butter on toast, Isaac is the secondary singer in this trio but his contribution should not be overlooked. Timberlake is the star here and his voice is more suited to pop and R&B, but surprisingly it works nicely here and when he gets to put his vocals to work at those high points it he is awesome. But of course the person most people were paying attention to was Driver, he’s the separate guy who sings and shouts the backing parts and he is amazing, his voice is so deep and the delivery of his lines is SO funny with those facial expressions. Tell me after this song is over that you couldn’t hear the words “OUTER SPACE!”, playing in your mind over and over again haha.

So to conclude, I don’t know whose idea it was to put this song in the film, but whoever it is deserves a medal as “Please Mr. Kennedy” might one of the most memorable songs in recent film history. Obviously that is a big statement, but besides the songs from Frozen‘s soundtrack, I don’t think I’ve found a song so addictive and fun. Together Isaac, Timberlake and Driver crafted a song that’s catchy and all-round fun.

 

Random Blog 10: Red Pandas… So friggin awesome!

Howdy ladies and gents and welcome to another edition of the Random Blog series, but before we get into the subject of today I want to have a look back on this series of blog posts.

The RB series started as just some series of blogs with no structure or specific reason for existing and the first post was practically invisible. But once I made the post about cats the series blew up! Then there was the hair post that was pretty popular too. And recently there’s been a lot of love for the Regular Show post and Batman: TAS post too. I’m loving this increase in popularity for this series, so for those of you out there that have checked out and supported the RB series, thanks a lot yo.

Anyways moving on, today we’re gonna look at one of my favourite animals in the history of existence; the red panda.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I LOVE THIS ANIMAL!

For the longest time I have been a fan of many types of including lions, tigers, eagles, koalas, etc. But around 5 or 6 years ago I was scanning through the web and I think I found a picture of a red panda on Wikipedia and I fell in love instantly. I don’t usually freak out about many animals, but this is the one time when you’ll see me as happy as a little school girl, no joke. 😛

To me, red pandas are just the cutest thing ever and look SO different when you compare them to your regular panda which is a lot bigger and traditionally black and white, whereas these guys look like some sort of raccoon/cat hybrid than any kind of bear.

The difference is staggering and while I do have a lot of love for panda bears, red pandas are WAY cuter!

I think I love red pandas a lot is due to all the pictures of them looking all cute and tired. Their whole appearance is wonderful, the colour scheme of orange, black and white is fascinating to me and all of their different actions whether they’re eating, sleeping, yawning or standing just makes me a bit giddy. They’re one of the few animals that have so much of my love and support. They seem like they’d make great companion animals. Some people like having either cats or dogs as a pet, me I’d want a red panda. They’re so unconventional and interesting to look at. I’ve always wanted to see or meet a red panda, if that happened I would be SO HAPPY.

Look at this face, how can you not smile or not think it is the cutest thing ever? XD

At some point last year I’m sure I got into a conversation with some uni mates about cute animals and I think we were going on about which ones we would like to own too. For me there are only three animals I would like to carry around with me everywhere and they would be either a red panda, koala or a sloth. They are the best and cutest animals that I like enough to take care of.

In conclusion red pandas are awesome, they are gorgeous and cute creatures that I doubt many people know about. So I’m just going about, spreading the word about those awesome animals because I love them and hope to have one of for myself one day or at least get a red panda featured in a film or TV show at some point in the future.

Random Blog 04: It’s All About Cats!

Okay so it’s time for Random Blog number four! And this time I’ve got a blog pots that’s just as random as the last, it’s all about cats!

I love cats, they’re awesome. I’ve known many friends who’ve owned cats and had family members that’s owned cats here and there and then there’s just the cats I’ve run into in the street on my many travels. So I’ve never been too far away from the furry felines. Even though I have nuff love for cats I’ve never owned one specifically myself, that may sound surprising but that’s only due to my mum’s rule of having no pets in our household. Even though I was gutted to grow up with no pets when I was younger I think it was for the best, I am very selfish and have a hard enough time taking care of myself let alone another person/pet. But enough about me let’s get back to the main topic here…

I’ve cats are awesome, but what makes them cool? That is something that is hard to answer, you sort of know without having to say it, it’s on that subconscious level. There’s many reasons to like cats like some of the following reasons:

• They’re really playful creatures
• They like to chase after laser pen lights, that never gets old
• The way cats meow is cute
• It’s nice when they purr when you pet them
• They can climb up and chill in your lap
• They don’t depend on you all the time and can go off on their own sometimes

Those are just a handful of reasons why cats are just the best ever. I’ve had some jolly experiences with cats from my junior school mate’s cat to my grandparents old cat to my best friend Chris’ cat. They’re just fun pets.

I’ve always been a fan of striped cats, they’re my favourite.

Outside of the bullet points I highlighted I think there’s two other key reasons I like cats, reason one is due to kittens. A kitten has to be one of the cutest baby animals ever, all you have to do is look at their faces and you fall for them. How can you not like them. Their real small, some can even fit into your hand! But like most creatures in their early years they need to be taken care of and their movements are small and in this state cats are just the definition of adorable!

So cute and fluffy, I want this cat.

The second reason would be due to cats similarities to lions and tigers. Lions and tigers used to be my favourite types of animals growing up, they were big, strong and fierce carnivores that clawed their prey to death and ate their remains (sounds grim but we can’t deny the fact that it’s true). Now I know that there is a massive difference between domestic cats and lions, but their technically the same besides their visual aesthetics. If I may, let me just go on a little tangent here. Lions, they’re basically big cats. They’re like my favourite form of big cat, especially the male lions with their manes (so cool-looking). And when lions are cubs they are positively cute as hell just like kittens!

Little lion cubs, they are adorable. I seriously want to own a cub one day… Or at least hold one. 🙂

Of course there’s that point where someone might just shout of something like “Dogs are better!” So which do I prefer, cats or dogs? Well ladies and gentlemen I don’t have a preference. I like both. While cats are less hassle than dogs I can’t choose one over the other because both have good qualities.

Cute and yet hilarious at the same time.

In the end cats are just the best thing ever. They’re nice, cute, fury and just the definition of fun. And before I finish this post I just wanted to dedicate it to my awesome friend Callie! It was her idea for me to do this blog post in the first place haha, but it was a fun little write-up though. Anyways I guess I’ll call this post a slightly delayed birthday present haha, hope she enjoys this and had wonderful birthday too! 😀

 

Random Blog 02: Hair!

Yo people, even though it’s been many months since the last one I would like to welcome you the second instalment of the Random Blog series. And today at the request of a classmate of mine I am making a blog post about hair, I don’t really know why but it was a request I said I would fulfill so here we are. Yeah. XD

So hair, we all have it. It lives on heads, on our arms, backs, legs, up our noses and in other regions of our bodies that I shall not get into. But anyways this blog post will be mainly on the hair you find on your head.

Hairy backs, lol. 😀

I’m not sure what I can really say about hair really, it’s just a common thing that everyone has it. However not everyone’s hair is the same, sometimes it comes down to genetics or sometimes people can be very creative with it and create some interesting and crazy hairdos from it.

See anyone can have hair and this looks alright…

But when you’re a little more creative with the hair and style it, the end-results can be very interesting.

I guess I find it interesting how hair can be so plain, but at the same time how it can be manipulated and changed into so fancy and stylized creations. I mean your hair can be cut, trimmed, shaved off, dyed another colour, platted, straightened, texturized, gelled, the list goes on. It’s also interesting how hairdos have so many different names like bobs and fringes or mohawks and high tops, it’s pretty funky. Just check out some of these insanely creative hairdos:

The level of creativity that people must have to make these types of hairdos must be on an insane level. But sometimes it’s not just about the over-the-top hair cuts and hairdos, sometimes there are just people in like that have genuinely nice hair. It may just be the style or colour, but the fact that it’s just natural on the persons hair and they carry it so well can be the great things about hairdos. Here’s some of my favourite celebrity hairdos:

Alec Baldwin is awesome and I’ve always loved this hairdo on him, it’s so cool. The slicked back style really works for him and that’s what I’ve really like about his character in 30 Rock.

Here’s have probably my favourite celebrity ever, Will Smith rocking the old school high top. Because of him I always wanted a high top, but my parents never allowed me to have one lol.

Jackie Chan back in the 80s had one of the most beautiful heads of hair ever. Yes I’m a guy and I just said that, but just look at him here from when he starred in Drunken Master, his hair was so rich and full of life.

So with me talking about hair so much I bet you’re curious about my hair aren’t you? Okay probably not, but I’ll tell you about my hair experiences just for the sake of it. Well since I’m just a regular black guy my hair was constantly kept shaven and short, though I deviated from that basic path on a few occasions, sometimes I have patterns in my hair or the most extreme changes where I have had my hair texturized and gelled so it has been either wavy or spiky. Those were the fun days, I used to have to use gel in my hair which is really irregularly for a black guy in my opinion, I don’t really know many who do use gel in their hair lol. The weirdest hair experience I had been when my hair went a shade of red as a result of the texturization. XD

So to conclude hair is a fabulous thing on our heads that can look amazing on its own natural state or can be transformed into fancy creations by very awesome hair stylists. Obviously we have hair in other places of a our body, but I think I will save that conversation for another time. Here’s 2 more epic hair-related pictures for you lot to have a look at:

Koala’s are awesome!

Howdy people of WordPress. It’s been a while since I blog about something purely random so I thought I’d do a blog on one of my favourite animals ever; the Koala bear! Why? because Koala’s are awesome!!

It’s funny, when I was back at home over the easter somehow the topic of cute animals came up and my mum, sister and talked about a few and when I mentioned Koalas I think we were all in agreement that Koalas are not only awesome, but dead cute!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! How can anyone not like the epic cuteness that is Koalas, especially this one above ^^

And it was during that conversation that I just recalled how much I used to love Koalas as a kid. I always found them to be amazing. The just looked different to not only other forms of bears, but completely different to most other animals. I just loved the way they would climb trees or how they would cling to people when you seem them being handled in the Zoo or on nature programmes on TV. They always seem to ultra chilled out when they are chilling in the trees and I have always found that hilarious. They were just fascinating to me. And thinking about it I still feel the same way. While Koalas aren’t my primary favourite animal, it is probably in the top 10. I’ve always wanted to hold one, I guess it’s one of my life goals. I swear I would have an epic level of satisfaction if I got to hold one. I’d totally freak out! 😀

If there aren’t any zoos or other places in the UK where Koalas are situated then I’ll have to find a way to get to Australia and hug one there! Anyways that just my thoughts on Koalas and I thought I should make a blog about it and share it with the world! Thanks for reading 😀

 

 

Bored!

It is just that as the title of this blog post suggests, I am bored. At this current point in time I can’t and don’t feel like doing anything, I mean compared to all the other times I have been bored out of my skull, tonight actually tops the list. I don’t know how but somewhere between 6pm and now I have just lost all incentive to do anything; I can’t be arsed to do my work (not that I was gonna start it anyway), I can’t be arsed to draw or play video games, I can’t be bothered with YouTube because I’ve watched everything already, heck I can’t even be bothered to go onto Wikipedia and gain stupid amounts of knowledge on things I already know about. Basically I’m bored and it sucks.

Right now I’m too indecisive to try and do anything because I am constantly thinking about the negative ramifications of taking on that action/task, in the end I am slowly loosing my mind and I am not sure of what to do…

Actually there is a partial reason why I am so bored, it is partially due to some previous frustration I faced earlier on today which has been subdued for now. Basically I wrote a blog post many hours ago talking about my creative and writer’s block that I have been experiencing in recent times and it was over 800 words long and it was actually a great post in my own opinion which I think would be nice to talk about… However when I published it, nothing came out, there was no words, no pictures, no nothing. I think you can imagine the level of frustration that was flying through my head. It was like an explosion just waiting to happen. I looked into the saved drafts and there was only one from when I had written the first paragraph, I was so pissed off it was unreal. I had been f*cked over by some internet anomaly and it was all because I didn’t do the traditional thing of copying my work before sending it out. I’ve done it before, but since this website has never given me problems I never thought that issues like that would occur. But hell they did and I still haven’t completely gotten over it. I want to watch a video or something but can’t watch anything too happy-go-lucky because I am not in the mood, but then I also don’t want to watch anything too long either because I know I’ll get bored and right now nothing on my laptop is giving me any good options.

So then you may think okay screw it, why don’t I go to bed? I mean I’m not gonna be missing anything and nothing will be going down in life until tomorrow. But I can’t be arsed to turn around and go to my bed because it’s too much energy being used. In the end I am too lazy to do anything so I dunno where I’ll be in the next 30 minutes so if I’m still around after my boredom crisis I’ll probably blog about it later haha. Peace out 😀

 

 

 

 

Northern Bald Ibis Birds are awesome!

While messing around on the internet in one of my uni classes I happened to be looking for different types of cool animals and I happened to be just randomly searching for anything slightly out of the ordinary and then I came across this amazing creature called the Northern Bald Ibis!

I mean just look at this magnificent creature, don’t you think it looks amazing?

I mean I have come across some pretty badass-looking birds in my time but when I came across this bird today while looking through Wikipedia and I have to say its one of the coolest-looking birds I have ever seen! There just happens to be a dark, mysterious, yet truly awesome thing about this type of bird that I cannot describe. It gives of the same sort of aura you would expect from a crow, but obviously this bird is of the larger kind. Seriously the Northern Bald Ibis has a very creepy, yet distinctive look and I believe it really should have a place in the media in the shape of a film or in a graphic novel/comic because there is some awesome art techniques you could use for it. Looking at it I really want to draw one of these birds and I would probably try to incorporate it into one of my comics and I already have one in mind. While I already have a horse in that particular comic, I’m sure I can find a place for this amazing bird. I want one of these Northern Bald Ibis birds, I’m not gonna lie. They look too cool for me not to own one. Even though they’re an endangered species I have to get one. If not that then I’d really like to meet one, I think this bird may become one of my new favourite animals next to koalas, red pandas, normal pandas and eagles.

The Brutality of Quasar!

It’s totally amazing how something as simple a game of Quasar (Laser Tag) can become so much more, and then turn into something out of this world… Given the right circumstances. And luckily enough we were under some of those “circumstances” yesterday when me and several other people ventured through the streets of Sheffield to the local Quasar place for some good old fun. There was so many of us, but we all got in with a game of 17 people versus 17 other people on the red and blue teams. We got the suits on, picked our sides and were told the rules of the game. Most it was obvious and standard procedure, though there was a funny rule that was mentioned was when we were told that “This isn’t Call of Duty, so don’t take it too seriously.” And everybody just laughed and roared in excitement, so you could already tell that the atmosphere had changed to ‘First Person Shooter mode’. We then proceeded upstairs and while heading up someone said exactly what I was thinking, that we all looked like people from Tron: Legacy and that we were heading to “The Grid”. At that point I was totally thinking “Sweet!”

To be honest going into Quasar I felt our battles were going to be as brutal as the disc wars from Tron: Legacy.

So we loaded our guns, walked into the dark, low lit room and started getting into position with a mix of excitement and fear in our minds. That’s the impression that I got personally and what I could see in eyes of my comrades (the red team). So then around 5 minutes later the other team (blue team) came in and the shooting began and I lost a life almost immediately after it started and I was like “What the hell!?!” So then most our team defended our forte from enemy fire while taking out any enemy who ran into our side. We defended pretty well, but the blue team had mad tactics and were pretty crazy and moved around the area in a kamikaze-like fashion, so it was hard to read their movements. Sometimes they just came running in groups and shot down our base with only 3 people. It was mental! And there I was running around like a nutcase trying to avoid enemy fire, but also just going crazy at the same time. I went over-the-top with the acting, yelling all over the place and telling my teammate that I got hit and I was injured. It was hilarious. And all the time there was Daft Punk playing in the background from the Tron: Legacy Soundtrack, it felt so good and felt like it fit into our scenario so well.

Daft Punk you saved my life again! 😀

And so the battle continued and at one point I went corrupt with power and went on a shooting streak and actually shot down a few people and I felt incredible, but then got hit soon after 😦 Eventually the battle ended and the blue team won, much to my dismay; however I felt obliged to do well for the next round. So feeling lonely on the red team I converted to the blue team with the rest of my mates and hoped to bring a new type of pain on a different team.

And so… Round 2 Began!!

With faster shooting ammo and much swifter settings put in place we went in and strangely enough the Daft Punk sounds had left the stereo, but what was playing at the time was even more incredible, it was a heavy metal cover of the Lance Theme from Pokémon Red & Blue. It sounded amazing and I was freaking out. However amidst all of this nerdy freaking out I was getting destroyed, I was losing lives even faster than I before which bugged me immensely. I was even getting hit while behind walls, I was like “What is happening!?” So after around 3 minutes I just gave up and became even more corrupt than the last round and ran out to shoot anyone on the red team, I even ran into their base area and got a few hits in here and there. But unfortunately I was still getting owned and losing lives fast. While this was going on the music that was playing via the stereos was awesome! Firstly I could hear the song “Encounter” from the first Metal Gear Solid and people were getting well happy and then there was the classic battle music from Final Fantasy VII, when that came on I was totally living in memories and felt totally energized to defend our base.

But then the unimaginable came happened… They played the main song from the first live-action Mortal Kombat film. And everybody on the blue team went mad! Me included.

We all just started dancing and raving out to the music! Regardless of whether the enemy was firing at us or not we danced away. Obviously we did our job and got shooting, but we were mainly dancing the entire time. Whether we were on our own or in small group, we just ran to where the party was and just started dancing and giving high fives. It even came to the point where there was a massive group of us dancing and then we lead a charge into enemy territory dancing the whole way, it was just incredible. And not long after the battle ended. And when the our team (blue team) saw the score we thought we’d won by a landslide score, however it was misleading scoreboard as we found out that the red team had acquired around 400 more points than we had, hell even my score was worse than the last time. Even though I had a ridiculous amount of fun bouncing along to the sounds of Mortal Kombat, the fact that I lost twice on both teams lead me to believe that I shall never succeed in any form Quasar lol. Oh well at least I still have gaming and sketching 😀

Rant 02: No Pizza!

Howdy ladies and gentlemen and welcome to another installment in my blogging rants and today’s subject will be on how terrible the pizza service was when I ordered it and it never even showed up.

Now I don’t know about you ladies and gents but I love pizza, it’s like my favourite food, when someone mentions pizza it makes me smile with happiness and when I know I’m gonna obtain some I can’t control my hunger for it (sounds strange but it’s all too true haha). So imagine my pain, suffering and frustration when I ordered a pizza, waited almost around hour for it just for me to find that it never made it to my address.

Look at how happy that kid is, that should have been me!

So check it out people, my mate called the pizza company on the phone and it took ages. Since the volume on the phone was fairly high I would hear the conversation from both ends and I swear the guy couldn’t understand anything, he asked my mate to repeat the order like 3 times! What the hell!?! He couldn’t even spell the name of the place we were staying at and it’s only 5 bloody letters long! Come on now! So eventually we got the order sorted and waited 30 minutes for the confirmation call to tell us they were outside. So me, my mate and his girlfriend came outside in the cold night air to obtain out pizza, only to find no one out there, we walked up and down the road several times and found nothing. The pizza guy called my mate and asked us where we were twice and we said we were outside on-location waiting and yet I still couldn’t see him. So when the delivery man called the third time round I took the phone and asked him in a fairly frustrated tone where he was and what kind of car he was in. He said he was in a green Vauxhall Corsa. Now I know it was dark, but hell I know my cars and there was no bloody Corsas in the area at all. So after standing outside for nearly an hour I was like forget this, let’s go to the take away place around the corner.

That’s what I looked like during this whole ordeal, no person should have to go through this foolishness!

So after all that effort I got nothing, it was totally frustrating, especially since we were all bloody hungry as hell. So the lesson here ladies and gentlemen is if your pizza man doesn’t understand what you are saying, can’t take an order properly and claims to be at your address when they clearly aren’t there, then give up and go somewhere else.

Our Pet Spider, Roger!

Yesterday by chance we had the opportunity to own a spider as a pet in our uni accommodation and so after my flat mate transferred him from underneath a glass cup to a plastic container, we named him Roger. And after a fairly lengthy conversation with my best friend on MSN he recommended me a full name for Roger and boy was it a name; Roger Aragog Jr. Alexander. A name with nice references to Harry Potter and the last name of one of my good friends lol.

Well, our spider is not quite as big or as cool-looking as this, but Roger is still pretty amazing!

As for our spider, he’s a fairly big lad, with long legs and he’s always crawling around the container or just chilling on the sides just waiting until someone shakes the container. One of me flatmates isn’t too kind on Roger and is actually afraid of him, so Roger has his supporters and his non-supporter so we’ll see how long this lasts. But heck we welcome Roger Aragog Jr. Alexander into our flat as our new pet with open arms 😀
