PODCAST: Film Focus Episode 58 – The Predator Film Series

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, as some of you may have seen, in 2016 I started a film podcast entitled Film Focus and on this podcast, I talk about various topics in film and reviews as well on a biweekly basis. And the latest episode is a casual discussion on the Predator film series.

Here’s episode 58:

Over the last few days I’ve rewatched Predator, Predator 2 and Predators in preparation for the new film that will be out next week and while watching them I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk about the series as a whole and share my nostalgic memories as well as talk about the pros and cons of each film and share my thoughts on what I think about The Predator considering the trailers I’ve seen so far.

As I mentioned before I’ll cover a different topic or review in each episode and since I don’t have much in the way of listeners or promotion, I’m here to spread the word about my podcast. 🙂

You can find my main site on Soundcloud here:

Or if you’re on iTunes subscribe and rate me on there:

So if you have some spare time on your hands and would like to listen to the ramblings of a passionate/strange man then please check it out, and share it with your friends if they are fans of film discussion. Also, you have any feedback or if you’d be interested in joining in future episodes be sure to let me know, until next time, laters! 😀

Shane Black Confirms That His Predator Will be a Sequel

Howdy ladies and gents, time for another news update. Now recently it was reported that the Predator series would be getting another film and it would be a reboot, written  and directed by Shane Black. Now it seems like there’s an update about this new film from the director himself. The following information comes from superherohype:

Big news broke yesterday with the reveal that Shane Black has plans to “reboot” 20th Century Fox’s Predator. Today, the Iron Man 3 writer and director (not to mention star of the John McTiernan original) tells Collider that his film does, indeed, tie to franchise continuity.

“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” Black says, adding that he can, “…really get behind inventive sequels.”

Black will be directing the new film and writing the treatment, which will then be scripted in full by Fred Dekker (with whom Black worked on Monster Squad).

Ah okay, well this is much better news and I think I am more down with the idea of a sequel than a reboot. For me, reboots have happened far too much a in recent years and if the Predator film series were to get rebooted only four years after the last one that would be a little too soon. So to hear that this film will be a sequel to 2010’s Predators is a nice and interesting surprise. Predators was a decent film and was the best film the series has had since the original 1987 film, it a similar kind of set-up, different and varied characters and even featured the original music too. That being said it still wasn’t strong enough to be a solid sci-fi action film. But with the way that film ended it left some interesting opportunities for any future films that would follow in the future.

Shane Black To Write & Direct A Predator Reboot!

Howdy ladies and gents, seems like we have some great have some great news dropped today and its something that I feel needs to be talked about. The following information come from ComicBookMovie:

Yes, Fox are rebooting Predator..again. THR report that the studio will relaunch the franchise with Shane Black on board to write the initial treatment, and then possibly direct. The actual script will be provided by Black’s pal, Fred Dekker, with whom he wrote ’80s cult favorite Monster Squad with. I’m sure you’re asking yourself why they don’t simply follow on from the last flick Predators (which wasn’t great to be fair) with a new cast and setting, but this is the way things are done in Hollywood now and that’s that. John Davis, who produced the original with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, will also produce the reboot.

Feels like things are coming full circle now. I mean Shane Black was an actor in the first (and best) Predator film and now he’s directing a new film in the series, that’s crazy how life works. But anyway how do I feel about this news? I’m definitely intrigued. Now do I think its good for their to be a Predator reboot in the works so early on after the last one in 2010? No absolutely not, that is the definition ‘too soon’. But that being said, I didn’t want the this series to end with Predators, that film was alright but nothing to write home about. I do want another Predator film and I am down for it coming from Shane Black. The dude is a good writer, knows how to get the best out of his actors and handles action well too and again, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favourite films in recent history and Iron Man 3, regardless of what anyone says is still a good film for me. So if there was someone with style and flair that I would like it to be Black. As long as they bring it back to basics, make the Predator alien the main enemy and give us decent characters (and no Topher Grace), then we are fine.

For me this is good call and I’m down. So what do you think of this news? Comment below and let me know yo! 😀
