My Top 11 Most Anticipated Films of 2015

Yo yo people of the internet, time for the penultimate blog post in this series based on upcoming films in 2015 with my top 11 most anticipated films of the year.  If you haven’t already, check out PART 1, 2 & 3 of my 2015 film preview. It does seem a little late now considering that we’re just over two weeks into January, but I feel like I had to be done after the film preview and I guess it’s better late than never right? With all that in mind let’s begin from number 11 to 1.

11. Jurassic World

jurassic_world_logo_a_l

At one point I wasn’t going to put this on this list. The first trailer didn’t wow me, however, in the end, it’s another Jurassic Park film, I need to see it. after all these years of talk, rumours and speculation, we’re finally getting another Jurassic Park film. One that ties back to the first film, it has a great cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Vincent D’Onofrio among others, and it introduces a story that mixes in elements new and old. That being said, the concept of genetically modified dinosaurs sounds questionable, pet velociraptors and re-hashing “humans getting eaten by dinosaurs” doesn’t give me much hope. I PRAY that future trailers get me more hyped up and that the whole film is great.

10. Ant-Man

Ant-Man_logo

Ant-Man is another film that I’ve been interested in seeing, but also had a lacklustre teaser trailer. Now this is a character I’ve never been th biggest fan of, however, I’ve warmed to him in recent years and since Marvel Studios have come to the point where they can make anything look cool in a live-action film, I have to believe they’ll do the same with this. They have a great cast, an original and unconventional hero and a different kind of superhero story. Even though Edgar Wright is gone and some of us just haven’t gotten over it, I do have faith that Peyton Reed, Kevin Feige and everyone behind the film will give us something worth watching… Unless it fails completely, which will be a first for Marvel.

9. The Peanuts Movie

peanuts-movie-cast

Out of all of the animated films coming out in 2015, this is the one I’m looking forward to the most. The Peanuts Movie is very important, because like a few other films on this list, the characters are part of history and the source material is very reach and nostalgic for many generations of people. After so many years with no Peanuts material, we have a new film, in 3D CGI, but with the right look and sounds of the old TV show. Now this good be beautiful or it could fail terribly and turn out like The Smurfs or Garfield, but I hope for that it turns out great.

8. Mission: Impossible 5

mission-impossible---ghost-protocol-4fe388bd3aafc

So now we have Mission: Impossible 5. After the badassery that was Ghost Protocol, I knew I had to see more Ethan Hunt adventures and in the latter part of 2015 we’ll get to see this crazy man start all over again. Now I feel like this film will not be as good as the previous one, but if it can be at least half as fun and action-packed as the last film then I’ll be happy for sure.

7. Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland-logo

I’m super curious about this film, there hasn’t been that much information provided about it beyond a few images and a really intriguing teaser trailer. But to be honest that’s all I need. That and the fact that Brad Bird is directing it makes me so hyped to see what he’ll do with this.

6. In the Heart of the Sea

heart-banner-new-10-16

This is a film I have a lot of hope for. After Rush in 2013, I knew I had to see whatever Ron Howard was up to next and this film looks incredible. The trailer I saw was amazing and gives us a look at a film which is dark, mysterious, large in scope and epic in action. Plus the cast for this film looks really good and the story seems like it’ll be a one of hardships and tragedy. I can’t wait.

5. Furious 7

Furious 7 Movie Poster

Now we have the 7th film in the Fast & Furious series, it is really weird to think that this series has been going on for this long, that being said after Fast 5, I think everyone was ready for more F&F action. That first trailer was awesome, it was like a mini preview of the film and while I don’t like to see too much of a film in the trailers, I feel like the teaser for Furious 7 was enough to get me hyped.

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

MadMax-FuryRoad-Poster

I have been watching this film from afar, but it wasn’t until the last trailer came out that this film got on my radar. I’ve not seen any of the previous Mad Max films, however, I’m not that bothered, if this film is half as good as the trailers are letting on then it’ll be a hell of a good time. I love Tom Hardy and the action sequences look mental, I want it in my system now! XD

3. Spectre

spectre-motion-poster-2015

After 3 years we have the next James Bond film in the form of Spectre. There is no official images or a trailer, but my anticipation of this film is very high, I really liked Skyfall and since most of the cast and crew are back for the next adventure makes me smile. I’m not sure what to expect, but with Sam Mendes at the helm I’m hopeful that he’ll do us Bond fans proud once again.

2. The Avengers: Age of Ultron

avengerscollage

I am surprised this ended up being at number 2, because to be honest it is my most anticipated film. I am I’m a comic book nerd and these superhero films are my crack. Marvel Studios have been giving me the good stuff for the last 7 years and now we’re heading towards the second Avengers film which promises to give fans everything they liked about the first film and more with darkness, drama and a badass villain.  That first trailer blew me away and the second trailer gets my hype juices flowing and so now we’re around 4 months away (3 for us UK people) and the wait, ah man, it is killing me, I just need it now.

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

star-wars-force-awakens-title

Ah man, it was a very close call between this and Avengers, but in the end the top choice had to be this film. I mean it’s frigging STAR WARS! Now I know this film could go one of two ways; it could either be great or a terribly disappointing, however it doesn’t matter, Star Wars is one of the biggest parts my childhood and is part of cinematic history regardless of whether you like it or not. For a lot of people this is their major film event of 2015, after the prequels most fans have been waiting for a proper SW film with the original cast and they are finally getting their wish. The short teaser trailer was FRIGGING AWESOME! And now loads of people are hoping that J.J. Abrams doesn’t mess this film up.

So that’s it, my top 11 list done, hope you enjoyed my choices. Now I shift my focus to you, the readers, what is your most anticipated films of 2015 and are any of your entires on my list? Whatever your thoughts are be sure to drop them in the comments below and I’ll see you on the next review yo. 😀

Films To Look Out For In 2015 Part 1

Howdy people of the interweb and welcome to the first part of my special series of blog posts dedicated to the films that you should be looking out for this year entitled: Films to look out for in 2015! Consider it a preview to this year’s selection of films in the cinema and I’m basically going to highlight why I believe they’re worth paying attention to. I have done this for the last two years and I’m excited to do all over again this year. 🙂

Now before we begin I have two main things I need yo point out:

  1. Obviously a lot films come out, so if they’re not only my list it’s either because I don’t know about them or I don’t care…
  2. 2014 films getting their UK releases this year don’t count! So there.😛

Okay then, let’s start 😀

Blackhat

Release Date: January 16th (USA), February 20th (UK)

Blackhat-poster

Trailer:

So first on this list we have Blackhat, a film I’ve been interested in since the time I saw the first trailer. What we have here is a thriller dealing with hacking and cyber crime on computers and while that’s not a very good description, the trailer gives you a good idea of what to expect. The reason why I think this film is worth watching is because; 1) The film’s directed by Michael Mann. 2) The cast look great featuring the like of Chris Hemsworth and Viola Davis. 3) The plot seems pretty intriguing, And 4) The film’s presentation looks lovely.

Wild Card

wild-card-poster-debut

Release Date: January 30th (USA)

Trailer:

So another Jason Statham film, at this point we’ve all become accustomed to Mr. Statham and the kind of films he participates in, and even though not all of them are hits, they always provide some form of fun and good action. This films looks like fun with plenty of action, card games, drama, revenge and all that jazz, plus the cast looks good and it’ll be interesting to see them interact. There’s currently no release for this film in the UK but hopefully it won’t be too long after it comes out in America.

Jupiter Ascending

Jupiter-Ascending-poster

Release Date: February 6th (USA & UK)

Trailer:

Ah Jupiter Ascending, feels like I’ve been waiting for this for ages. This time last year I was waiting for it as part of the summer of 2014, but it never came. The trailers haven’t blown me away but it certainly looks interesting and since it is directed by The Wachowskis, I have to see if they can make a good film that isn’t The Matrix (although I did like parts of Cloud Atlas). The story looks interesting enough, the CGI looks amazing, I like the cast and I want to see two things: 1) How Eddie Redmayne fares in the films and 2) How Sean Bean dies, because let’s be honest, that’s what everyone likes to see these days. The sad truth is that this film was meant to be out last summer, then got delayed to this year and normally when films get pushed back to the early part of the next year it means that it’s bad. I can only hope that it is worth the wait.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Release Date: 13 February 2015 (USA), January 29th (UK)

kingsman-the-secret-service

Trailer:

Initially I wasn’t interested in this film, even if it was directed by the great Matthew Vaughn, the premise never sounded that interesting to me on paper. But then I saw the trailer and then I was convinced otherwise. This film looks mental, with slick and well-crafted action, a cool-looking story, a good cast and SAMUEL L. JACKSON! I mean I’m annoyed it has taken this film so long to come out, I just wanna see it now and get this cool stuff in my system already.

Focus

Focus-poster

Release Date: February 27th (USA & UK)

Trailer:

Now we have a film I’m very curious about and hoping will be good and that is Focus, which is Will Smith’s first film in just under 2 years! The reason I’m interested in this film is because I like film’s with con men, it means there’s a lot of deception and trust involved and obviously when women come into play for men, things can never be simple. The story seems like there is a good balance of drama and humour and Will Smith paired with Margot Robbie seems like a great match. For me Will Smith is my childhood hero, I love the guy, but it is fair to say that in recent years the guy has become fairly invisible and has shown up in decent films (Men In Black 3 & Anchorman 2) and one really bad one (After Earth), so to see him in a potentially good film makes me smile. I hope this is his return to form.

The Lazarus Effect

the-lazarus-effect-poster

Release Date: February 28th (USA)

Trailer:

I’m not one for horror films, anyone who’s read this blog knows that. However, there was a lot of buzz about this film especially what I heard on AMC Movie Talk, so I watched the trailer and now I’m curious. I like the concept of resurrecting the dead and there being repercussions for the people involved. Sure it has been done in other films before and a lot of the things I saw in the trailer does look a bit generic when it comes to horror films, however I like the cast and I’m curious to see what this film’s about.

Chappie

chappie_xposter

Release Date: March 6th (USA & UK)

Trailer:

Ever since I saw the trailer for this film I interested. I like films about artificial intelligence especially when they learn and are trying to be human. Seems like Hugh Jackman is a man who wants machines to work one way and is threatened by machines that can think and Sigourney Weaver looks to be the bad person once again, supporting Jackman’s character. I hope that it will be good. I still love District 9, it remains to be one of my all-time favourite films, however, Elysium did not do much for me at all. So I am hoping that this film is a better experience than Blomkamp’s last outing.

Cinderella

cinderella_poster

Release Date: March 13th (USA), March 27th (UK)

Trailer:

This does look like another variation on the classic story about Cinderella, however what interests me is the way the story’s being redone. It hits all the same notes as the original story (Cinderella has evil step mothers, there’s a fairy godmother, mice get transformed into horses, etc). However there is a heavy focus on Cinderella’s mother and childhood, the evil stepmother has more to do and the world looks more grand and vast than ever before. I love the vivid presentation and the cast look great, I am a big fan of Cate Blanchett, I love Hayley Atwell and seeing Richard Madden again after Game of Thrones makes me grin. I hope Kenneth Branagh succeeds with this film.

In The Heart Of The Sea

in_the_heart_of_the_sea_poster

Release Date: March 15th (USA), March 13th (UK)

Trailer:

I’ve already talked about how much I wanted to see this film in my first trailer review. However if you’re not already aware let me say it again, I am HYPED for this film. After Rush, I knew I had to see whatever Ron Howard was up to after that and this film looks amazing. The film looks super dramatic, action-packed, atmospheric and dangerous, there is a great scale and the cast are filled with a great set of people including Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson.

The Gunman

the-gunman

Release Date: March 20th (USA & UK)

Trailer:

I honestly didn’t know anything about this film until I looked it up and just from the cast I was interested. Then I saw the trailer and then put this film on my list. I am a sucker for action thriller’s, it is my jam yo. The film looks like it has an interesting story to tell and again I’m really liking the cast. I like Sean Penn, but I’m a massive fan of Idris Elba, Javier Bardem and Ray Winstone and I just want to see how these characters in the film come together.

Alrighty then, that’s part 1 done. Thanks a lot for reading. Are any of the films listed on your personal list of films to watch? Whatever your thoughts are be sure to drop them below and I’ll see you for PART 2! Laters 😀

In The Heart Of The Sea Trailer #1 Quick Review

Howdy ladies and gents, time for a quick trailer review and today I will be talking about Ron Howard’s next big film, In The Heart Of The Sea. Now I’ve been hearing a lot about this film for a while, however, it wasn’t until this trailer came out that I’ve truly gotten invested in this film. I was always going to watch it purely based on the fact that it starred Chris Hemsworth and it was directed by Ron Howard, but this trailer makes me more excited than ever for it.

Check out the trailer below:

So my immediate thoughts after seeing the trailer? Nice, I am intrigued.

Now I’ve never seen too many Ron Howard films, but I know of his credentials and after seeing and loving Rush last year, I am totally down with whatever he decides to direct in the future and while the subject matter shouldn’t really interest me, this trailer is convincing me otherwise. What we have here is a group of men on a ship out at sea looking for a legendary whale, that’s the gist of the tale, however, this trailer makes out like there is much more going on beyond that. It seems like while there is definitely a whale, it seems like there’s many other things going on with the main character and his crew.

There are gun battles, ships being wrecked, harpoons are lifted and thrown, men fall overboard, ships are on fire, birds are flying around in the air for some reason, two men drift ashore on a beach and there’s someone on an island alone. And there’s a lot more on display, but it just looks like there will be a great deal of things happening besides the hunt for the famous whale. And speaking of the whale, bloody hell, look at the size of the thing! And from the way the trailer is handling him, he seems to be treated like some kind of natural disaster, like Godzilla, a monster of the ocean that is hidden until it wants to be found and then causes madness at sea for the humans involved. I love it.

I love the visual style, it seems very dark, vivid with strong colours, interesting lighting and it comes across very stylized and atmospheric and even though there is a use of visual effects, it doesn’t look like it overshadows the film but helps enhance the visual experience. What also helps is the music, the music helps amplify the visuals on-screen having a slow, calm sound and then builds up during the montage of imagery and then winds back down at the end.

heart-banner-new-10-16

In conclusion In The Heart Of The Sea is looking pretty awesome and the fact that it is coming out in March of next year means I won’t have to wait too for it, I’m down for it.

So what do you think of the first trailer for In The Heart Of The Sea? Does it make you excited or does it leave you uninterested? Whatever your thoughts are be sure to drop them below and I’ll see ya on the next review. 😀
