Spider-Man: Far From Home Review

Howdy people of the internet, how is it going? Today I finally get to share my review for Spider-Man: Far From Home; the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the latest superhero film from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures via my podcast Film Focus.

Now I have been interested in watching this film since the first trailer came out last December, but my hype levels really didn’t start to blow up until a weeks before the film’s release and hearing some of the positive thoughts on the film from early film critics. So how does Far From Home compare to Homecoming and continue the Peter Parker story after Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame? Well, check out this spoiler-free review to find out!

P.S. 1) Since there are a lot of interesting things you should see pretty fresh I tried to be as vague as possible with this review. And 2) Apologies about the background noise, I had a very limited window to record this episode so unfortunately, I couldn’t record around the people moving around the house.

Anyway here’s the review:

So have you seen Spider-Man: Far From Home and if so what did you think of it? Drop your thoughts in the comments section below and I’ll see ya in the next review, until next time, laters! 😀

Toy Story 4 Review

Howdy people of the internet, how is it going? So yeah after a break that took a lot longer than I expected due to a cold that took my voice away. I am back to share my thoughts on the latest film in the Toy Story series; Toy Story 4 via my podcast Film Focus.

Now I have been curious, cautious and hopeful about this film since its announcement in 2014. And Toy Story 3, one of my all-time favourite films, ended the series in such a strong way, I thought why would Pixar potentially ruin the series with another entry? It wasn’t until the full trailers came out that I got an idea of what TS4 would be like and that’s when I started to feel some hope that it could be another solid film in the series. So how was the film? Well, check out this spoiler-free review to find out!

Anyway here’s the review:

Double Review: Brightburn & Godzilla: King of the Monsters Review

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, how is it going?  I am back with a double film review on Brightburn and Godzilla: King of the Monsters via my podcast Film Focus.

Because of scheduling conflicts, I decided to put both reviews in the same episode and I have a fair amount to say about both. So how did these films fare? Well, listen to this episode for some spoiler-free thoughts on both films! 😀

Timecodes:

02:10 Brightburn Review
14:18 Godzilla: King of the Monsters Review

Also around 14:48 I made a mistake about the number of Godzilla films that currently exist, the actual number is 35.

Anyway here’s the review:

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum Review

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, how is it going? So I’m back again to share my thoughts on the latest film in the John Wick series; John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum via my podcast Film Focus.

It is crazy to see how far this set of films have come, from the original surprising audiences in 2014 to the 2017 sequel which wasn’t as well-received, but I thought was really damn good (check out my review). And now you have Chapter 3 which I was always excited to see, but my hype levels didn’t kick in until around a fortnight before the film’s release and it also helped that the early word of mouth was pretty positive as well. So how was the film? Well, check out this spoiler-free review to find out!

Anyway here’s the review:

Pokemon Detective Pikachu Review

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, how is it going? So I’m back again to share my thoughts on the latest video game film adaptation in the form of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu via my podcast Film Focus. Now, this film went from being something I wasn’t overly interested in watching to being something I had to watch. With pretty compelling marketing and an interesting story based on the Nintendo 3DS spin-off game, does this film end up being the film to break the video game adaptation curse? Well, check out this spoiler-free review below to find out!

P.S. Some small things to note:

  1. I accidentally bumped the mic while recording because I got a little too hyped talking about the film.
  2. Between 18:41 to 19:06 I discuss a minor Pokemon-related spoiler for the film.

Anyway here’s the review:

Avengers: Endgame Spoiler Talk

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, today I am here to share my spoiler-based thoughts on Avengers: Endgame via my podcast Film Focus. Now I know not everyone has seen the film yet, but I had to get this out as soon as possible for those who have. Also, this film has so much packed into it that it would be impossible to highlight everything that happened in its 3-hour runtime, but there’s a lot of stuff that I had to say about the story, characters, presentation and this film’s ties to other films in the MCU. So be prepared for a looser, less structured episode where I talk about most of the things that stood out to me in a very passionate and emotional way haha.

P.S. A couple of things to keep in mind:

  1. I do get a little loud from time to time so mind your headphone volume.
  2. Around 16:17 I mention Gamora when I meant to Nebula, so apologies for that mix-up.

Anyway here’s the episode 78:

If you haven’t checked out my podcast before you can find it here: https://soundcloud.com/film_focus

So have you seen Endgame and if so what were your favourtie parts from the film? Drop your thoughts in the comments section below and I’ll see ya in the next review, until next time, laters! 😀

Avengers: Endgame Spoiler-Free Review

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, how is it going? So yeah I have returned from the depths of the earth to share my thoughts on the latest superhero film from Marvel Studios; Avengers: Endgame! Normally I would have had my review online by Friday but I decided to take some time to really think about the film, process it and then deliver it via my podcast Film Focus.

Anyway here’s the episode 77:

Now surprisingly this is one of the shortest reviews I’ve ever done for a notable high-profile film like Endgame, but I believe was due to me trying to avoid giving any spoilers but also trying to give my thoughts fairly concise as I didn’t wish to ramble on too much haha.

If you haven’t checked out my podcast before you can find it here: https://soundcloud.com/film_focus

So have you seen Endgame and if so what did you think of it? Did it meet, exceed or fall below your expectations? Drop your thoughts in the comments section below and I’ll see ya in the next review, until next time, laters! 😀

PODCAST: Film Focus – State of the MCU

Good day to you ladies and gents of the internet, I’m here again to share with you an interesting discussion via my podcast, Film Focus. On episode 76, Drew from Drew’s Movie Reviews not only returns to the podcast but takes over hosting duties as we dive back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his topic; The State of the MCU. Since Avengers: Endgame is on the horizon, Drew and I thought it would be fun and interesting to discuss the superhero films from Marvel Studios in a little more detail discussing everything from the best and worst villains to our Top 5 best and worst films to the minimum amount of films you need to see before Endgame comes out.

So join us on a fun-filled discussion and of course know that this is spoiler-heavy, so if you’re not caught up on all of the films it’s best to catch up and then come back.

Also, two things to keep in mind:

  1. This is a spoiler-heavy discussion, and while we don’t cover every film in detail, if you’re not up to date with all of the MCU films then it is best that you skip this or get caught up and come back.
  2. This a fairly long episode at an hour and 47 minutes, but it is definitely a good listen as there was a lot of fun, humour and different perspectives on several of the films.

Check out the episode below:

So what did you think of our discussion? Agree or disagree? I really want to hear your thoughts on this film so drop your thoughts in the comments below and if you have some spare time subscribe to my podcast, Film Focus on Soundcloud and iTunes. Until the next time peeps, laters! 😀

QUICK THOUGHTS: Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker Teaser Trailer

Howdy ladies and gents, I’m back from the underground to talk about some Star Wars! Yeah, so earlier on today we found out not only that Episode IX will now be called The Rise of Skywalker (An interesting title that I shall discuss later), but we also got a teaser trailer and you know I had to share my thoughts on that. So without further ado, let’s talk about that trailer!

Check out the trailer below:

So my initial impressions were this, “Okay, I am intrigued and dare I say excited to see where this is gonna go.” Now I can’t lie, my love for all things Star Wars has diminished somewhat, not only because of my conflicted feelings about The Last Jedi and the haphazard nature of how this new trilogy has been constructed under Lucasfilm and Disney’s watch but also due to some of the really toxic members of the fandom that make it hard to enjoy anything these days… But at the end of the day, I still love Star Wars and want to see more of it and this teaser seems to suggest we’ll be getting something good.

I feel like there’s an interesting tonal balance between the darker and lighter tone, I feel like this teaser is trying to retain what we got from The Last Jedi but infuse it with more of the adventurous side of things we got with The Force Awakens. There’s a lot to like about this trailer, Luke’s voiceover is great, ooooooo Lando! The sense of scale is still really insane, the choice of lighting is nice, it looks like the action will still be intense with a good balance between practical and digital effects and I am just so glad to FINALLY see Rey, Finn and Poe together as a team as that was what wanted in the last film. I’m also really liking the colour scheme and visual presentation as we get shots of Rey in a desert, Kylo Ren in a forest, some aerial shot of a city surrounded by mountains and that awesome shot of Rey, Finn & Poe staring at the remains of the Death Star… But then you hear that laugh at the end, that distinctive laugh. Good god, it’s my boy Palpatine aka Darth Sidious. But what does it mean? Is he alive? Will be some kind of dark side force ghost thing? Will be in a flashback or in some past hologram? I need answers!

On top of that, the title makes me wonder if JJ and the filmmakers will be retconning a few things or not. The title The Rise of Skywalker implies that a Skywalker will be the focus and as we know, Luke is “dead”, Leia can’t be the one and though Klyo Ren is technically of the Skywalker bloodline, he can’t be redeemed (at least I hope not). So who else is left? Is there any secret Skywalkers hiding out there? Or are we gonna retcon Rey’s heritage to make her a Skywalker to explain her abilities and please some of the fans that weren’t pleased with the answer they got in The Last Jedi? Who knows? Either way, I am very curious.

To conclude very intrigued by The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer, there is a lot of interesting things going on and a lot to speculate about. I have my hopes and fears, but I want to believe that this will be a satisfactory conclusion to this trilogy.

So have you seen The Rise of Skywalker trailer and if so what did you think of it? Are you hyped, curious or underwhelmed? Let me know in the comments section below and I’ll see ya on the next review, laters! 😀

Shazam! Review

Howdy ladies and gents of the internet, I know this one is a little late but back on here to share my thoughts on Shazam! in the form of a review via my podcast, Film Focus.

On episode 75 of Film Focus, I share my thoughts on Shazam!, the latest superhero film from DC and Warner Bros. Now, I recall seeing the trailer for this film online during Comic-Con 2018 and being quite intrigued. The concept of a kid being able to transform into an adult superhero with Superman-like abilities is such a crazy and unique idea with lots of possibilities cool superhero adventures. And after the early positive word of mouth came out about the film two weeks ago, I got really hyped to see it. So after seeing it a recently, how was the film? Well, check out this spoiler-free review to find out!

Check out the review:
