What I’m Currently Watching #39

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. It is week 39, and I’m gonna keep it brief since I don’t have much time this week so I have seen a lot of TV over the last few months that haven’t reviewed from The Punisher to Bojack Horseman season 4, so today I’ll be giving you my thoughts on Lucifer and Crisis on Earth X. Be careful of spoilers! With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀

Lucifer (Season 3) “The Sinnerman”

This week’s episode of Lucifer was great, it explored a lot of great stuff when it comes to the relationship of many of the main characters, but also with this Sinnerman character that was spoken of towards the start of the season. Firstly I like how the Sinnerman’s affected both Lucifer and Pierce, with the victims of this week’s episode tied to Lucifer and the favours he did for said people and Pierce because of the death of his brother. It made the episode feel personal and had a sense of urgency. As fun as it is to see Lucifer running around being the fun, witty and charismatic man who I like, it is more interesting when he’s put in a situation he doesn’t have a way out and in this episode he’s not only trapped by the Sinnerman, but then towards the end of the episode he tried to interrogate him with his powers but can’t because Sinnerman’s gone and cut his eyes out! Like fucking hell, what a crazy yet smart thing to do. This Sinnerman ain’t no joke. Also, let’s talk about Decker and Pierce, I know this show’s really trying to push for this new relationship but it doesn’t feel natural, their relationship feels very hot and cold, sometimes you can see some normal hints toward something, other times it feels like it’s coming out of nowhere. I like that these two have opened up about the family loss that they’ve suffered and had a sense of teamwork developing. And speaking of couples,  Linda and Amenadiel have finally hooked up, I mean they’ve been getting too cosy recently for things not to end up this way. Too bad Maze is back and she doesn’t like that relationship because of her friendship and previous relationship with these two, I liked how Lucifer forced her to confront her feelings about them and how she ultimately told Linda to stop seeing Amenadiel… The only problem is that Linda looked pretty worried, I mean she took a little too long her office door and while we don’t see anyone else in that room I don’t think she was alone. I sense complicated times ahead for Maze, Linda and Amenadiel. And finally there’s Charlotte, I’ve liked where her character’s gone, from being possessed by Lucifer’s mother to a woman trying to right the wrongs of her past by assisting the police. I appreciate how she’s finding the transition hard and that she’s not quite good at doing the right thing, but she’s got her heart in the right place and seeing her and Dan have that heart-to-heart in the men’s room was sweet, if a little strange and awkward haha.

Crisis on Earth-X

This Now I’ve not been keeping up with all of the CW superhero shows, I dropped off of Legends of Tomorrow a while ago and I got aways into season 2 of Supergirl I forgot to keep watching haha. The Flash and Arrow I’ve kept up with and I’m enjoying them so far, especially Arrow that’s really good at the moment. So when I heard about this Crisis on Earth-X I was always going to watch it, I just wasn’t super compelled to see it. But after I heard a lot of hype around to first two episodes I decided to watch it and damn it was a lot of fun. The people behind these shows understand what their fans want but also throws some curveballs too. I also appreciated how the show quickly caught you up on what’s happening in the world of each TV show, so in case you weren’t up to date or just weren’t watching any of them, you never felt lost as the story was its own adventure, though if you were up to date it did give you a greater level of appreciation for the characters. What I really liked about this four-part event was the story and characters. I liked the idea of a secret Earth where Nazis won the war and you had these dangerous versions of the heroes plotting to rule over Earth in different realities. There was a lot of drama and surprises especially in regards to the death of Martin Stein, he was one of my favourite characters on Legends and to see him get shot, have that heart to heart with Jefferson before he died, I got way more emotional than I expected and Steins’s funeral, that was frigging beautiful. On top of that it was fun to see all of the different characters interacting and there’s too many to highlight, let me just say that seeing Wentworth Miller again as Captain Cold was delightful, the evil versions of Oliver and Kara were really cool, seeing Reverse Flash was fun and the action scenes were pretty well done.

What I’m Currently Watching #28

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. This is the 28th week and since my week’s not proceeded as expected and I’ve lost a lot of time, I’m only going to be reviewing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Arrow and Lucifer. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for spoilers…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 4) “Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire”

I like how with this week’s episode of AoS the storylines that were presented at the start of season 4 are starting to converge and some of the mystery is finally being unveiled. Firstly I continue to like how the Watchdogs are a constant threat with means of tracking Inhumans in every conceivable way including hacking into SHIELD monitoring devices and making deals with questionable individuals like JT James (who returns from last season). And can I just say it was nice to see James again, see how life has changed and learn that he’s still just untrustworthy as he was before and I was glad to see him and Ghost Rider duke it out as he was the only fire guy on this show until Robbie showed up. Seeing Coulson and Mac interact with Robbie this week was great too, there was some fun back and forth between them, but it was even cooler for them work together to not only discover more about Robbie’s uncle and the incident that got him incarcerated, but also have Robbie work with SHIELD to help save the day. It was also nice to see Daisy and Simmons hook up as we got to see them not only go off on their own little adventure with varying results of success, but it was just nice to see them interact after so much time and see their different viewpoints on.current events. Then there was some wonderful moments between Radcliffe, AIDA, May and Fitz, May’s reaction to finding out about her brief death was hilarious (and Coulson’s later comment about starting a club for people who have died was great too), Fitz’s constant worry about AIDA’s existence was funny yet warranted and I also liked how AIDA was smart, more humanised and even liked by May, but also questioned why Fitz lied about her heritage and Radcliffe explaining the pros and cons of lying. That kind of artificial intelligence material is delightfully thought-provoking. And finally I loved that car chase between Robbie, Coulson and Mac, it was wonderfully choreographed with parts reminded me of Terminator 2 and it in an unexpectedly cool way with Robbie crashing into an invisible Quinjet. Nice. 🙂

Arrow (Season 5) “A Matter of Trust”

Arrow‘s was another decent episode. Again I wasn’t overly keen on Diggle’s little predicament, but it was great to see Deadshot again as his cellmate.What I did like was how Oliver’s got a lot on his hands both as Arrow and as mayor with 1) More trust issues between Oliver and his team and the creation of a new bad guy and 2) The media coverage on Quentin Lance being made deputy mayor and Thea’s work to try and make things better only to make the situation worse. I appreciate how this show is still building up the team and creating this new team dynamic which is shaping up nicely, plus each of the characters had more moments to shine, but it was Curtis that stole the show for me with his humour and especially with his specific lines about “Returning to the scene of the crimes” and saying “Suit up!” 😛 I was also glad that the show didn’t drag out the story with Felicity’s guilt about her involvement in Havenrock and told Rory about it which makes me curious about how this will affect not only their involvement together but the whole Team Arrow dynamic.

Lucifer (Season 2) “Lady Parts”

This week’s Lucifer was a solid episode with a decent main story, but it mainly worked because of the character interaction and humour which was on-point. Firstly I adored how much fun this episode was with all of the characters having great lines of dialogue, banter and individual moments to shine. Lucifer was as fun and charismatic as ever, but this was also a great episode for Chloe and minor characters like Ella and Dr. Martin that got some spotlight too. Seeing Maze, Dr. Martin, Ella and Chloe on a makeshift girls night out was so delightful, it was cute and fun to see them share life experiences, form a bond and then start a bar fight was hilarious and badass especially with Maze beating everyone up. 🙂 But the men also had an unexpected fun session with Lucifer, Dan and Amenadiel infiltrating the sex party and getting up to all sorts of fun situations, it felt so random for those guys to be together but it worked because of their different personalities, Amenadiel’s hilarious drunk shenanigans and the brothers making jokes about Dan looking like anything but a cop. But wow, I did not expect that revelation at the end about Lucifer making a deal with God with him sending his mum back to hell exchange for Chloe’s life. That not only makes Chloe much more important than before, but it also means that Lucifer’s put her life in severe danger as seen by that last scene of her in that car crash (poor Chloe I really like her). I find it insane that Lucifer’s never had a phone before, and yes it was primarily used as a means to keep him busy from his personal issues but it led to some funny moments with him playing games or doing face time with Maze. And though Lucifer’s mum wasn’t the focus of the recent episode she still had some fun scenes dealing with human life and still having some tension with Maze too.

What I’m Currently Watching #27

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. This is the 27th week and I’ve got a good few shows to cover,  but since I’m feeling a little tired this week I’ll be focusing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The  Flash, Arrow, South Park and Star Wars Rebels. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 4) “Uprising”

This episode was pretty intense, for the first time in a while this show presented a threat that had a some stakes, danger and potential no-win scenarios for everyone involved. This revolved around the Watchdogs attempt to create chaos and control by posing as Inhumans, creating blackouts and taking over several key locations across the world in a short space of time. For the first time in a while the Watchdogs felt like a threat, for a while now we’ve known they’ve existed, but they’re primarily a faceless enemy that felt was all talk and no action, but this episode did well to illustrate how formidable, strategic and dangerous they can be when required. I also loved how the blackout created several interesting scenarios like: 1) Yo-Yo being at her friend’s party and being forced to use her powers. 2) Coulson, Mac and Fitz attempting to stop the Watchdogs without their convention electronic equipment. 3) Having Simmons and Radcliffe attempt to save May without electricity to power the defibrillator. All of these situations were pretty handled well and required the characters to make think on-the-spot and make tough decisions. I really enjoyed how this episode addressed the prejudice towards Inhumans, how it was still very fresh in the minds of many humans and how some just weren’t ready to trust those who were different, and this created some create/uncomfortable moments between Yo-Yo and her friend and Daisy and Gabe. The action in this episode was also pretty good with two especially fun sequences involving Mac, Coulson and Yo-Yo taking out the bad guys. But my favourite sequence was when they went into that one room, Yo-Yo took all the weapons and everyone just wrecked shop on those Watchdogs dudes, it was wonderfully choreographed and the lights going on and off in between the action scenes was great. Finally it was also great to see Radcliffe and Simmons bring May back to normal (though I thought that AIDA may have been discovered by Simmons) and seeing SHIELD finally back in an official capacity makes me happy and intrigued for what comes next for the organisation especially considering the reveal Senator Parminder Nagra been in cahoots with the Watchdogs (she’s gonna be someone to look out for).

The Flash (Season 3) “Paradox”

This week The Flash kept its momentum going, and this whole tampering with the timeline stuff created some really interesting changes for what both Barry and us as the viewers know to be reality, all this crazy stuff with Cisco mourning the loss of his brother, Iris being at odds with Joe because the situation with her mother and other minor/notable characters either being alive or totally new altogether makes me say “Huh?” in the best and most curious of ways. And I liked how things started with Barry talking to Felicity about what he did in the timeline and what’s changed for him in this variation of his normal reality, that was fun and quirky and just highlights how important their connection still is. And I couldn’t help but shake my head at Barry’s poor attempts at understanding what’s changed in his life and how he interacted with those close to him with the worst kind of responses. That conversation Barry had with Earth-2 Flash was very important and beautifully worded as it not only gave a good account about what happens when you tamper with time travel but also how in life certain things happen that can’t/shouldn’t be changed and one can only learn from the experience rather than trying to go back and fix them. I also enjoyed seeing Tom Felton as Julian Albert, this guy is a bit of a snobby douche, but in some ways I like his attitude and distrust of Barry, feels like he’ll discover Barry’s secrets if he gets too sloppy. And while it was nice how Barry’s close friends and family forgave him, at the same time I felt like some of the issues in this world were resolved in too much a happy-go-lucky neat bow. But hell it doesn’t matter as the action was solid with the return of Clarence, plus Alchemy seems to be setting up some interesting events for the future which I’m down for.

Arrow (Season 5) “The Recruits”

Arrow was. As the title of this episode suggested it was all about Oliver getting his new crew together and having a new threat in Star City which causes some trouble for Oliver not only as the mayor but also as Arrow too. The episode wasn’t even 10 minutes in and Oliver as his alter-ego was schooling the new recruits, beating them up as they tried to ring the bell behind him. I can see how some would view his methods as harsh/unfair, but this is classic training 101; train your newbies by dishing out the pain in the most brutal way without killing them to toughen them up for the road ahead. But it was interesting to see Felicity and Oliver butt heads over his training methods, and it really came to a head when Curt gave that tough yet truth about Oliver’s trust and leadership skills, it was a good scene, and then it led to another great scene about why Oliver acts like he does, because of his training in Russia and the losses he’s had over the last few seasons of the show. I love this retrospective/personal material, it really hammers home how difficult it can be to be hero, to build a crew and have trust, and have them follow you with death being a possibility at any point. But I was happy that Oliver revealed himself to the team and that we’re getting the origins of the new team Arrow! And there’s a few other things of note like: 1) I also liked how the flashbacks were relevant to what was happening in the present. 2) While Diggle’s side mission got interest towards the end, I wasn’t overly engaged since he’s not longer part of the Arrow crew, so whatever’s going on with him felt irrelevant. 3) The introduction of the dark archer known as Prometheus attacking Church was cool and I’m curious to see how close he gets to killing Arrow himself.

South Park (Season 20) “Wieners Out”

This week’s episode was decent one, nothing overly hilarious, but it certainly had its moments. So this episode was all about the uprising of Butters and his campaign to make boys to pride in their manhood, while Gerald felt the pressure and paranoia of his online trolling as he was contacted by a fellow troll about the upcoming plans coming from the Danish to take out trolls permanently. I liked how this episode focus on gender equality, the complications/loopholes in modern political correctness and trolling and internet anonymity. Can I just say that I love how this episode opened with the narration, wonderful cinematic visuals and the Danish views on traditional trolls and how they basically became questionable human beings behind computer screens. I also loved seeing the progression of Cartman and Heidi, how they’re going out and show all the horribly cheesy elements of a modern PC relationship and I didn’t expect to see Butters start a revolution in school but that was pretty funny/amazing. Oh and seeing the mess Gerald had to go through trying to distance himself from the troll stocking him, then trying to stay away from electronics and then lying to his wife about porn that lead him to get peed on, that was some bizarre/funny stuff too. I think my only major gripe with this episode was the lack of super funny jokes, I don’t mind smiling or chuckling at stuff in South Park, but I do miss laughing my ass off on a consistent basis or at least having one major LOL moment.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 3) “Hera’s Heroes”

So this episode dealt with Hera teaming up with her father and the Ghost team to go back to her home world to save her family heirloom. I like how this episode started out with an action scene, it was pretty cool to see the Stormtroopers chasing after Cham Syndulla and his companion across the lovely desert scenery. Just like with season 2 it was nice to have another character-driven episode where the Jedi and Sith weren’t the primary storyline. And then bloody Grand Admiral Thrawn comes into play and that’s when things got really interesting. I liked how in this episode was got to see much more of him in terms of his overall demeanour and learning about how dangerous a man like him can be to the Rebel Alliance. Thrawn was calculated, classy and chilled out, but how he was also was a good few steps ahead of our heroes and knew who Hera was and the significance of her family heirloom too. You don’t mess around with this guy. I also enjoyed how he let the heroes escape saying that he found the overall experience enlightening, so this clearly shows that 1) He learns from the people he encounters. And more importantly 2) He’s playing the long game so he’ll probably come back a lot harder down the road. Now I will admit that I though more would have been done on this mission, there could have been more than Hera and crew could have taken maybe with supplies or maybe take down a calculated amount of the Empire’s forces on the planet, but alas that wasn’t the case. Even though in the grand scheme of things the episode felt a little inconsequential by the end, the episode had some good character moments and Thrawn’s appearance definitely made this episode more a highlight than I expected.

What I’m Currently Watching #26.5

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. It is week 26.5 and I’ve decided to do another TV post this week because of the extra shows that have started and some of the episodes of current Tv that’s gone down this week too. So today I’ll be talking about Blindspot, The Flash, Arrow, Star Wars Rebels and South Park. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers…

Blindspot (Season 2) “If Beth”

Seems like a lot has happened in this episode with Roman trying to help Jane fight for Sandstorm’s cause, Reade trying to process his repressed memories, the animosity between Weller and Nas continued. The main story surrounding the ex-CIA agent was pretty interesting, though not as engaging as last week’s episode, the material surrounding the main characters’ personal struggles was much better. One thing I really liked was when the team went undercover to that fancy charity event, I love when a team have to infiltrate an event by dressing up, but covertly looking for a dangerous suspect in various locations of the location. There was some nice moments of humour, tension and action especially with Patterson, Jane, Weller and Nas. Oh and by the way everyone looked so smart and beautiful especially Jane, Zapata and Patterson. 🙂 We also learnt two major things about Sandstorm this week, 1) Shepard and Roman really wanted Jane emotionally invested to the point where they revealed history not only about themselves but also their ties to Jane. And 2) The revelation that Sandstorm have been watching Weller for over 20 years (even having his old cadet ceremony video), that was creepy and surprising and it makes me wonder just how much does he factor into Sandstorm’s plans.

The Flash (Season 3) “Flashpoint”

Yay The Flash is back with the first episode of season 3 and so far I’m liking it. I’ve never read the comics or seen the animated versions of the Flashpoint Paradox but this episode seemed to deliver on what I’ve heard about the source material online. So this episode basically dealt with Barry living in this new version of reality where both of his parents are alive, Wally is The Flash, Cisco is a billionaire, Joe is a drunk and a good few other things have changed too. It was intriguing and fun to see Barry interact with this world which was familiar and yet different, but as Eobard Thawne stated time was gonna catch up with Barry and soon it did. Seeing a rich Cisco, a super confident Kid Flash and drunk/lazy Joe was interesting, but it was the Barry and Iris stuff that worked the most for me, I’ve never loved Iris, but I never liked her that much either, but here she was the most likeable she’s ever been for me and I’m not sure why. I loved how there were consequences for time travel for Barry, living in the new timeline was all and well, but because of his speed and new interactions with the people he knew, he was erasing his original memories which made me have to team up with Thawne to correct the original timeline, only problem now is that Iris is no longer part of the picture, so one can only wonder what the hell happened in this version of the prime universe.

Arrow (Season 5) “Legacy”

After an up and down 4th season, Arrow‘s back again with its 5TH SEASON! Just thinking about how far this show’s come since its inception is crazy. I said after I finished the last season that was done with this show, but I knew I wouldn’t stay away for too long and this first episode wasn’t half bad. It was nice to see how things had changed from last season with Oliver being mayor, but still being the Arrow by night, except now he’s back to killing and brutally hurting his enemies again. 😛 I also liked seeing how tough life’s been for Quentin after Laurel’s death and how Thea didn’t want to go back to the vigilante lifestyle after leaving that part of herself in the past. Straight from the beginning the episode started with the action and it was on-point, it was filmed well, nicely choreographed and was solid throughout the episode. Some of the CGI was a little blurry and didn’t blend too well with the live-action stuff, but it was decent enough. I liked seeing Chad L. Coleman as Tobias Church, he was fun and cheesy (in a good way) and I’ll be curious to see what he brings as the main villain in future episodes. It did feel weird that Team Arrow only consisted of Oliver and Felicity, but its nice how by the end of the episode Oliver was persuaded to assemble a new crew. Even the flashbacks weren’t that offense and might offer up something I may actually be interested in, but we’ll see if I’m still feeling that way halfway through the season haha.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 3) “The Antilles Extraction”

This week’s episode of Rebels was another enjoyable episode with the focus being on Sabine as she infiltrated Empire to help recruit some of the pilots that wanted to defect to the Rebel Alliance. Firstly I wanted to say that it was great to see Sabine front and center, getting to go on a tough mission and show off her skills. As for Wedge he’s been one of those minor character characters who I’ve always liked seeing in the main films, so seeing him at an earlier point before A New Hope was cool, though not as exciting for me because I’m not overly invested in him as hardcore fans are. I liked how Sabine’s mission wasn’t easy whether it be her questioning the orders given during the training simulation, to her escape with Wedge and the others being sabotaged which lead to them being captured or how Sabine had to fight Governor Pryce in hand-to-hand combat. And speaking of Pryce, it was great to see more of her personality and get directly involved with the Rebels (seeing her fight was awesome), but it was Agent Kallus who surprised me, once again he showed a lot of development and more so than before he definitely seems conflicted, helping Sabine escape and seeming dissatisfied with his treatment in the Empire at the moment (at least that’s how I saw it). And once again I had to comment on how great this show looks with the art direction, use of colour and lighting, on the planet where the Empire were based, it looked gorgeous.

Fall/Autumn TV I’m Gonna Be Watching!

Howdy people of the internet and fellow subscribers, its September and TV season is starting up again soon and I just wanted to update y’all on the stuff I’ll be checking out. Now for those who have been following me since last year you’ll know I started up a series called “What I’ve Been Watching” where I reviewed the TV I’d watched during that week, and while I wasn’t always consistent from week to week, it was a lot of fun to talk about TV and get some responses. Now there are some shows I’ve dropped or don’t care for as much as I used like The Walking Dead, Gotham and possibly some others, so yeah just thought I’d put that out there.

Anyway with all that out of the way here’s me preview:

Luke Cage (Season 1)

This show is just shy of two weeks away and I swear this wait has been almost as difficult as Daredevil season 2. Luke Cage went from being a show I was intrigued about to being something I was super hyped for, I think its been thanks to the great trailers and interviews about the way the showrunner and actors approached this show that got me so giddy. I’ve never been a big Luke Cage fan, but Marvel’s Netflix shows have made care for characters in an in-depth manner and I assume that’ll be the case for this show too. I want this show to be badass, I need to be, if it isn’t then I’ll be gutted. But I hope the show will work out.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 4)

I know a lot of people have given up on this show, but there’s a still a good few people that have a lot of love for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that’s one of the key reasons it’s survived despite the low viewership and less than stellar perception from an outsiders perspective. AoS has been improving with each season and while not all of the stories and characters are great, it can definitely make for some entertaining TV. So now we have season 4 with a totally different landscape for all of our main characters and the introduction of frigging GHOST RIDER! Something I thought would never happen, and while it’s not the OG Johnny Blaze incarnation, I’m still hyped to see what they do with the character, and where things will go with the use of Inhumans, Coulson and company and Quake on her own solo adventures.

South Park (Season 20)

It is crazy to think that South Park is in its 20th season, man, just thinking about it makes me feel a lot older that I am. Anyway, even though the show’s already started, I haven’t checked out the first episode yet. I am curious to see what Matt Stone and Try Parker bring to the show this time around as season 19 had so many intriguing and refreshing changes to the basic formula to the show while still being as funny and as relevant as ever. So here’s hoping season 20 is a good one.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 3)

I love how Star Wars Rebels went from being a show I liked watched to being quintessential TV. Season 1 introduced some great new characters, story and mythology, while season 2 built upon that foundation and expanded it to a whole new level with more episodes, more character-driven stories, darker elements and ties to previous Star Wars film and TV material. And after the conclusion of season 2, I am more hyped than ever to see how this season unfolds with the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn into the world SW canon, getting more Maul, seeing more of Sabine and the Mandalorians and discovering what will become of Ezra as his Force abilities grow stronger.

The Flash (Season 3)

The Flash has been on of the most consistent TV shows in the superhero genre in recent memory and it went from strength to strength from season 1 to 2 to give audiences compelling and intriguing stories, characters, action and drama that was easily accessible and yet true to its source material. Season 2 was certainly more ambitious with the time travel material, doppelgänger characters and supernatural elements with the Speed Force and Zoom. And while The Flash some weak episodes around 2/3’s of the way into the show overall it was a stronger season and because of the way it ended, The Flash can now go anywhere and I’m curious to se if this show’s season 3 will be good or will be the start of a decline in quality like with what happened to Arrow‘s third season.

Lucifer (Season 2)

Ah Lucifer, what a crazy journey we went on last year. It is crazy how this show went from something I had no interest in, to being around 3 to 5 episodes in and really getting into. The show had an interesting balance of supernatural material mixed in with the standard police procedural genre, and while seeing certain common elements of the police drama side of things got a little tiresome, there was enough unique material to keep me watching. Plus it was the characters that was the main selling point of this show and the cast all did very well with a fabulous central performance from Tom Ellis as the charismatic and ever so charming title character. I’m really hyped to see where this next season goes especially with the introduction of Lucifer’s mother played by Tricia Helfer.

Blindspot (Season 2)

Blindspot ended up being one of my favourite new shows of last year and while each weekly episode was not always as captivating as it could be, it had an interesting story with characters I liked and a level of mystery, intrigue and surprise that made the show worth watching. I’ve just seen the first episode of season 2 and I’m liking what I’m seeing so far.

Arrow (Season 5)

With Arrow I’m almost ready to say taht I’m done with it considering how questionable the show’s gotten over the last two seasons with all the inconsistent, dull and uninteresting storylines, flashbacks and new characters I’ve had to endure. But it hasn’t been all bad and since I started thisshow back when it was good, I feel compelled to see it through to the end. I just hope that the showrunners can some new life into this show, but also get back to the core elements which made the show entertaining the first two seasons, because I do want to see this show bounce back.

Supergirl (Season 2)

At this point in time I haven’t finished Supergirl‘s first season because it was constantly a mixed bag of stuff I liked and things that irritated me. I found the show too similar to The Flash in tone, use of the soundtrack and overall format (probably the Greg Berlanti touch) but in addition to that the CGI was choppy, the fight scenes had no oomph or good choreography and the stories weren’t always too engaging. That being said I loved Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, most of the main cast are good, thee’s good world building and some cool reveals and the world the show inhabits has potential to grow and become even better. Season 2 seems to be delivering a lot of new material, most notably including Superman, so I’ll be curious to see how this show moves forward but also ties into the other CW DC shows.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2)

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t love this show, but there’s enough redeeming qualities about it that makes me want to keep watching. While some of the repetition in the story and character relationships and personalities got a little annoying, I did really get attached to the characters (mainly the already established ones) and it was the actors/actresses that kept me coming back more than the stories. I hope that season 2 will have a more compelling central story, less annoying character and better fight scenes too.

What I’m Currently Watching #17

Howdy ladies and gents, and after a good few weeks off I would like to welcome you back to What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. This is the 17th week and while there’s been plenty of TV on the air, I’m gonna start with the regulars and work up to more in the future if I have time. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for spoilers below…

Agent Carter (Season 2) “Smoke & Mirrors”

Agent Carter just continues to excel at being awesome with this week’s episode doing a great job at again improving the foundation that season 1 created, but also introducing new and unexpected elements that have made the show so much better than before. There was so much to love from the humour involving Jarvis, to Peggy’s tactics to get information out of Mr. Hunt to Whitney Frost’s attempts to understand her abilities with the Zero Matter inside of her. But for me the flashbacks were the most fascinating parts. Learning more about Peggy and Whitney’s history from their childhood to later periods in adulthood was very insightful, fun and heartbreaking to watch. Who would have thought Peggy was married before the war began or that Whitney had an a mean mother who didn’t care her daughter’s intelligence? There were powerful moments between Peggy and her brother, Whitney and her mother or when Peggy and Wilkes. Oh and how great was it to see Whitney just turn into full-on villain mode and absorb Hunt? I love how she’s accepted this ability and reasserted her dominance over her husband too, I can’t wait to see where her story goes towards the end of the season.

The Flash (Season 2) “Fast Lane”

Last week’s episode of The Flash was impressive so I was really looking forward to this week’s episode. For me “Fast Lane” was decent, I was enjoying seeing another metahuman emerge two years after the explosion and the internal conflict within Dr. Wells was brilliant because of his attachment to Barry and Team Flash, but also his agreement to Zoom in order to keep his daughter alive. That stuff was great. But it was when Barry was running as the Flash and wasn’t able to save Iris, that specific moment was when the episode got my attention. Before now Barry’s always has been quick enough, but because of Wells stealing a bit of the Speed Force, Barry, for the first time in a while hasn’t been quick enough to save everyone and its worse because the person he allowed to get hurt was Iris. But THEN Wells openly admits that he stole Barry’s speed and gave it to Zoom in front of everyone, WHAT? This could have easily been hidden for several more episodes and yet it was brought to light right then and there and now Wells is on lockdown, and the episode wasn’t even over yet! Madness! And then Barry chose to forgive Wells and let us know that they were going to Earth-2, nice. Also Cisco continues to be the king of humour and badassery when he named Tar Pit or when his ringtone went off or when Barry and Caitlin dubbed Felicity the best hacker and Cisco was disappointed on their response, that was perfect.

Arrow (Season 4) “Unchained”

This week’s episode of Arrow was decent. I looked like everyone in this episode had issues with Felicity facing more problems because of her disability, Thea was having trouble staying alive because of the after effects of Lazarus Pit and her run in with Damien Darhk and the team were dealing with the return of Roy as a potential criminal. I honestly didn’t care for the Nyssa’s storyline, though it was great to see Tatsu/Katana again and see her fight Nyssa. And I liked having Roy back on the side of Team Arrow and learning about what he’s been up to and why he’d been doing what he’s been doing. Also the Calculator was pretty interesting and dangerous enemy, but to learn that he was Felicities father was a cool reveal and I’m curious to see where his character goes in the future. The return of Shado via the flashbacks was probably the best thing that’s come out of season 4 since the appearance of Constantine, but since it was only through hallucination it didn’t leave as much of an impact.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 2) “Legends of the Lasat”

This week’s episode of Rebels was good but not as engaging as I’d hoped. I’d heard online that we’d have a Zeb-focused episode and that’s something I’d welcome with open arms, but this was definitely not what I was expecting. Learning about Zeb’s past and what happened to his people was very interesting and just added new layers to an already cool character, but what I wasn’t too keen on was the two Lasat’s and how they wanted to find their new home and relied on a legend and blind faith to find this planet. For me the story overall just wasn’t as interesting as some of the material that’s come before, that being said I did enjoy the final few minutes or so when Zeb used his staff to travel through the portal when Agent Kallus tried to go after them and failed, those few moments was when I really started to get into the supernatural aspects of the episode.

What I’m Currently Watching #16

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to post #16 on What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. This week I’ve been behind schedule with several shows so I’m literally going to be doing just three reviews this time round because I’m short on time. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers below…

The Flash “Running to Stand Still”

This week’s episode of The Flash was awesome, nuff said. I mean besides a few nitpicks I had with Patty Spivot’s storyline, this episode was hella good featuring some of the best humour, drama and collection of characters together in one episode for a while. One of the key elements that stood out were the villains, not so much Weather Wizard, but more so Captain Cold and Trickster. Wentworth Miller continues to kill it in this role proving such a fun and engaging performance nd while his character is a villain, he’s definitely starting to show signs of being good with his warning to Barry about the upcoming attacks. While Trickster on the other hand that guy is just evil, he’s crazy, whether he’s making announcements of TV, dressing up as Santa or signing weird versions of Christmas songs, Trickster makes it clear he’s out to do no good and Mark Hamill, dear god, I love this man, he just ate up every scene he was in and I loved every second he was on-screen. And he took lines and did things that would probably come across as cheesy if any other person was doing it, but Hamill made it work. Oh and there was some awesome dramatic moments with Joe and Iris in regards to Francine and her hidden son, the acting in those scenes were awesome. There were also some great scenes with Earth-2 Wells and discovering what he’s been up to with Zoom and learning about Zoom’s ultimate plan to steal Barry’s power once he’s much faster which was cool. Oh and seeing Wally West getting introduced was nice too, can’t wait to see what will happen with him in the future. As I said before there were a lot of great humour in this episode, but my favourite line probably of the show so far was Cisco saying to Caitlin and Jay: “Oh lord just kiss already. The thirst is real.” Best. Line. Ever.

Arrow (Season 4) “Dark Waters”

This week’s episode of Arrow was pretty interesting with Oliver finally calling out Damien Darhk on his evil plans, only for Darhk to come along and crash a party, have a good few people killed and then steal several of Oliver’s key people in an effort to see what he’d do when the people closest to him were in a tight spot. I appreciated how everyone had a purpose and it really felt like this episode got Arrow back on track to what I liked about the show in the first two seasons. I loved Darhk in this episode, still just as charismatic, fun and humourous as ever and I also liked how Felicity found out about her mother’s relationship with Quentin Lance too. Once again I didn’t care for the flashback sequences as they felt completely irrelevant and didn’t hold my interest at all, but the ending was certainly interesting with Felicity getting shot during that chaotic shoot out sequence in the limo, I wonder if she’ll die?

Star Wars Rebels (Season 2) “Legacy”

I thought this week’s episode of Rebels was pretty good. I’ve seen and heard some complaints about the show’s heavy focus on Ezra and Kanan or the fact that some people just aren’t fans of Ezra or that this episode didn’t progress any of the new plot created in this season, but for me this episode was mainly about closure for Ezra and finally finding out about what happened to his parents. I wasn’t keen on Ezra at the start of season 1, but he’s come a long way and he really is becoming an interesting character, from his interactions with the Force to seeing him use his Jedi trying to take out stormtroopers and Agent Kallus with ease, the dude’s becoming more powerful and badass by the day… And looking more and more like he could turn to the dark side, did you see how aggressively he went after the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister? How crazy would that fight have been had Kanan not intervened? It was also great to see Ezra acknowledge and thank Kana and Hera for all the help that they’ve given him. Oh and I can’t talk about this episode without mentioning how great it was to see Hera in her leadership position helping out Rex and Sato in that escape mission when the Empire tried to capture them.

What I’m Currently Watching #15

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to post #15 on What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. Last week I skipped the reviews mainly because there wasn’t a lot on and I got lazy, but this week is gonna be pretty packed so brace yourselves haha. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers below…

In The Badlands “The Fort”

This is probably the last new show of the 2015 that I’ve wanted to see, from the time I read about it in the IGN Fall Preview I was intrigued because of the martial arts element. For those unaware I LOVE me some good martial arts in film and in the world of TV it’s never really been that big and for the longest time there hasn’t really been a notable show that’s shown off martial arts since Martial Law and that was AGES ago in the 90’s. So I watched the first episode yesterday and I liked it. Plot-wise the show has some familiar elements with main characters have ties to a specific place, evil people in power with loads of followers willing to kill for them, people shifting alliances, a special person with fancy abilities, you know that kind of stuff. I do like the setting and some of the mythology that’s been set up with the Barons, talk of potential war, and Sunny being this super feared “Head Clipper”. But the main stand out of the show is the action, and its handled in a beautiful way. No martial arts sequences have looked as good as this in other TV shows, it is stylish, violent, well-shot and choreographed so beautifully especially that fight in the rain.

Supergirl “Red Faced”

This was probably my favourite episode so far. Since the beginning I’ve liked Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, but I’ve not found a reason to get behind her as a hero, but this week’s episode really made me like her. So far Kara’s been a nice and very forgiving person considering all the drama she’s had to deal with in her personal and superhero life, but this week we got see some good character progression. What I mainly liked was seeing her flip out and I love it when heroes get angry. Kara tried to do her job as a hero, she got told off by Hank and General Lane, she tries to do her normal job and gets verbal abuse from Cat and her mother, and it was good to see her get aggressive, whether she shouted at Cat (which was amazing by the way) or was beating up on Red Tornado. Oh and how cool did Benoist look when shooting her lasers at Red Tornado? That was badass. This episode had her confront her emotions and realise certain truths about how she feels about her life. Besides Kara, even though I didn’t like the look of Red Tornado I did like the way his abilities were handled, also Glenn Morshower showing up as another government official was great, his character was a douche but he was played well. I still feel bad for Winn, he’s got the hots for Kara would do anything for her and yet he’s invincible to her went James is around and the fact that she said that she couldn’t have a relationship similar to James and Lucy’s without even acknowledging his existence was mean.

The Flash “Legends of Today”

So here we have the first half of the The Flash/Arrow crossover and man a lot happened in this episode. Let me start by saying that Vandal Savage is awesome, I’d heard a lot about this character long before his appearance on TV, but I didn’t know he’d be so menacing, cool and troublesome, he killed those innocent men at the docks, got hit with arrows and fell off and building, and even fought Flash and Arrow and kept coming. The dude was a beast I liked him a lot. It was also nice just to see these heroes from different cities team up again, whether it was Barry and Oliver noticing things that had changed in each others abilities or locations or just their comrades getting to hang out, it was fun and entertaining to watch, There was also some great mythology being created in this episode with the introduction of Carter Hall (Hawkman), Kendra and their history together but also with Savage too. I also liked how Caitlin and Wells worked together to create a drug to make Barry faster, but what was even more interesting was after Wells was shot by Patty (damn it woman, you done goofed), it was Jay Garrick, the person who was adamant about not taking the drug who ended up having to use it to save Wells. Also there was a few small moments that made me smile whether it was Cisco talking about his hair conditioner being on-point or Thea not knowing about the Flash or how Malcolm Merlyn and his men kept emerging from the shadows in the Arrow layer (that last one was amazing and hilarious). Oh and finally what the hell was that bit in the beginning about Oliver having a secret child? I thought I’d missed an Arrow episode like what happened at the end of season 4 of Buffy with Dawn’s reveal, but apparently that’s a thing and we got to see possibly a link to that at the end of this episode.

Arrow (Season 4) “Legends of Yesterday”

And now we have the second half of the Arrow/Flash crossover and it was good for the most part. What I didn’t expect was the big time travel element as we saw Vandal Savage basically kill everyone except the Flash who ran away straight back into the past, and thanks to him telling Oliver a few things about his future encounters the heroes were able to have second chance at being Savage. Time travel is always a tricky thing because there are many rules and some shows abide by the basics or create their own or throw the rules out altogether and do whatever they want and with this show I think it did a decent job at allowing characters like Oliver, Barry, Cisco and Kendra specifically to change their future. Finally getting context on Oliver’s hidden son was good and it was interesting to see how he dealt with it and how the secrecy almost cost him his relationship with Felicity, and while I’m not quite sure about the need for more complications in Oliver’s life with a secret son on top of the stuff he’s dealing with already, it was certainly interesting to watch. I did find this episode less exciting and engaging than The Flash half, but it was certainly entertaining and finally, what the hell is Merlyn doing with Savage’s ashes? Mad man!

Moonbeam City “The Legend Of Circuit Lake”

This week’s episode of Moonbeam City was ridiculous, probably the strangest stuff I’ve seen since episode 2 or 7 in terms of the content being stuff that was really weird but surprisingly humourous. This week had Rad trying to get revenge on Dazzle by locating info on Dazzle’s history in the virtual reality archives, however, he ends up befriending a virtual woman and her son and builds a life with them. This was seriously weird shit, besides the virtual people looking all strange in 3D, it was the fact that Rad forgot who he was a just accepted the life he had, while on the outside he was trapped in an abandoned room of the police station with his body covered in rats and spider eggs (eww). Beyond that Dazzle was accused of killing Rad and was sent to jail where he befriended a jail computed system and they had some form of sex which was the most bizarre thing I’d seen in a cartoon in a while, Dazzle’s grinding movements is something I haven’t been able to forget haha. Besides that it was interesting to see Pizzaz actually sad about Dazzle’s imprisonment or in the interrogation seen when Pizzaz, Chrysalis and Dazzle pretty much gave reasonable cause for Dazzle to be Rad’s killer.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 2) “The Future of the Force”

This episode was pretty cool with the return of the Inquisitors on the hunt for Force sensitive children and it was down to Ahsoka, Kanan, Ezra, Zeb and Chopper to stop them. I thought it was pretty cool seeing the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister back on-screen as these baby snatchers, but also as ruthless villains who while not always great at their job, can be pretty scary and dangerous causing havoc for normal bystanders and giving Kanan, Zeb and Ezra trouble as they were being hunted. But Ahsoka, damn, what a beast. She was really cool in this episode when she stepped in to take on the Inquisitors with her white lightsabers and man she just owned them, she showed that the wasn’t just skilled in combat but also with her use of the Force, and she made it apparent that the Seventh Sister is clearly the stronger of the two Inquisitors at least that’s the way I saw it. This episode was really good for the visual presentation with some awesome lighting, animation and art design when it came to the cities and sense of scope, and man was I happy to get some lightsaber fighting, I love that stuff and it was really well-choreographed here.

What I’m Currently Watching #13

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to post #13 on What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. Since I’ve started losing time in the week I’m dropping a few shows from the list and will be focusing on the current seven for the immediate future. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers below…

South Park (Season 19) “Naughty Ninjas”

This week’s episode was pretty funny. I love how the kids decided to be ninja but then be mistaken for Isis followers which scared the life out of the citizens of South Park, that was frigging awesome. I also love how this episode addressed how dodgy police officers are when it comes to abusing their power and beating up minorities upon their arrest and how that doesn’t occur with standard white folk. Also the reference to NWA with the town basically fucking off the police was great too. Oh and Officer Barbrady, what a legend, he’s always been incompetent, but this episode really highlighted that when he shout a minority and got fired. The first time it was hilarious and seeing him struggle was nice as we got to see more his life beyond his job (he looks strange without the sunglasses), but then once he got reinstated and shot another kid, that was just a little silly and for the town government to not foresee something like that happening again makes them look even worse by comparison. Plus Cartman, I love the guy and when he kept getting the boys confused as ninjas was hilarious, but when he does something stupid and tires so hard to pin on someone else for an entire episode, it gets old and makes him look like a damn fool. I’m also curious about this Leslie situation, that girl has been a mercy of PC Principal’s yelling for ages and now she’s been taken away, but there’s this organisation that’s been watching her and want Barbrady on the investigation? Oh, South Park, you better be going somewhere good with this.

Castle (Season 8) “Cool Boys”

Castle said best near the beginning of this episode “This separation thing is starting to get really old.” I feel like the guy is saying what all the fans are thinking about this show at the moment. May this was intentional as the writers are aware of what the fans are thinking or it may just be just his thoughts, either way, a show where the two main characters aren’t an item after becoming one can be dull and Castle is falling into that trap. Beyond that, this was a solid episode even without Stana Katic around, sure Beckett’s absence was felt, but Castle and the return of Adam Baldwin as Det. Ethan Slaughter certainly made up for it. Ryan and Esposito taking charge of the police work while Beckett was away made for some interesting and funny moments, but the real meat of this episode was seeing Fillion and Baldwin together, while I wasn’t too keen on Slaughter back in season 4, here was a lot more useful and we learnt more about his character and his talents (like being a good cook and studying musical theatre in college). Oh but the best moment was when Castle and Slaughter broke into song to confuse and distract their enemies at gunpoint long enough to get the jump on them in a fight, that was totally unexpected and hella funny.

Supergirl “Fight or Flight”

This was probably my lest favourite episode so far, while the character development was good for Kara and James, and the villain Reactron was better because he had a backstory, overall I still can’t find myself getting into this show the same way I have with other comic book shows. My complaints with the show remain like: 1)  The bad action sequences and questionable CGI. 2) The constant references to Superman, its like the show can’t function without referencing the man of steel. But I noticed some other things to nitpick like the fact that this show has too many similarities to The Flash in terms of the intro and tone. Also all the modern references to social media, the Kardashians and other bits and bobs feels forced and unnecessary and am I the only one who thinks that it’s too early for Kara to be falling for James Olsen? Its only been three episodes, and while their potential relationship has been foreshadowed since the first episode, it feels a little too soon for relationships to come into play.

The Flash “Enter Zoom”

Man, I frigging love this show. The Flash is one of those shows that when its good its is SO good and this episode was one of the best so far. Now the first half of the episode wasn’t as compelling as the Zoom portion of the episode, but it definitely had its moments. The opening of this episode with Dr. Light defeating Flash was interesting, but then we get the whole backstory of everything leading up to that point with the original Dr. Light escaping and Linda from Earth Prime dressing up as Light in order to lure Zoom from Earth-2 into a trap. I loved the way Linda was handled in the episode, she had a lot of funny moments from her projectile training to her cheesy dialogue and man how hot did Malese Jow look in her costume? Damn. Anyway moving on… I also liked seeing more of Barry and Patty together, Team Flash’s suspicions of Earth-2 Wells and having more screen time with Tom Cavanagh, his version of Wells this season is so stern, mean and secretive but as we saw from Cisco’s vision and Wells’ speech, he does have good intentions and behind all the mean exterior the guy has a heart. But let’s talk about Zoom for a second, fuck me! What a beast! This guy has been labelled as bad news, but this is really someone not to be messed with, he found and almost killed Linda, he fought and crippled Barry and then displayed him across the city. And I loved the amount of tension, action and pacing of all that material as the episode was coming to an end. Zoom’s design and voice could come across as cheesy but I’ve found him just as compelling and engaging as a villain I’d watch in a film. Oh and as for Barry to not be feeling his legs after waking up from his battle with Zoom, damn, that’s just messed up. I wonder how long that’ll last?

Arrow (Season 4) “Lost Souls”

This week’s episode of Arrow was good, however I had a few issues with it, mainly the whole Olicity situation. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good relationship in the world of TV and film, and in the realm of comics it is one of the quintessential elements that make superhero stories very engaging and emotional, however there is a limit to how much time they should be the focus of a story and that was certainly the case here. Oliver and Felicity’s constant bickering was such a pain in ass and while it was funny to see certain characters reacting to it (like Diggle’s face in the Arrow lair or Thea and Laurel’s response to hearing Olicity’s arguing on their communicators), for the most part it was annoying and unnecessary. Felicity, I love her, but bloody hell she really kicked up a fuss in this episode, I know her history with Ray made her want to do everything in her power to help him, but pushing mother and Oliver away, and then questioning her relationship with Oliver leading to a potential break-up was such an endurance test. Oh and after all that drama they ended up together all lovey dovey with some super cheesy dialogue which was so painful to watch. Besides all that nonsense. It was great to see Brandon Routh back as Ray Palmer, he was still funny and seeing what happening to Ray and how he had to be saved from the hands of Damien Darhk was great. The reintroduction of Donna Smoak was fun, while she can be a little annoying at times, I found her quite hilarious and damn Charlotte Ross is hotness so there’s that. Also was great to have Sara Lance back as the original Black Canary, Caity Lotz this looks as hot as ever in that costume and I loved seeing her kick some ass, though I was surprised that no one took precautions before they went into battle as she beat someone up and then killed a dude later on. Oh and I have to say the best part of the episode was with Oliver and Diggle drinking and chatting, it was a genuine heart-to-heart moment between the two oldest characters in the show and it felt good.

Moonbeam City “Cop Con”

I think this is my new favourite episode. Cop Con seems like the most stupid, pointless and self-gratifying convention in existence, but that’s what makes it so much fun to watch whether it be the menu with all the police puns, the strange panels (like Dazzle’s on confiscating police stuff) or seeing a man shit his pants thanks to a new police gun. it’s all sorts of foolishness and I love it. Rad was at the background of the episode again, but when he was used it was funny like when he was bouncing on the bed or getting followers for his own convention. What really surprised me is the random sexual adventures between Dazzle and Pizzazz, before now there has been NO sign at all that these two would even touch each other because the hate and bickering was so strong, but here they were so civil with each other even outside of the sex like they were totally different people. This again proves that Moonbeam City would be better with a sense of continuity between episode and a bit more character development so certain events between characters doesn’t seem so out of left field. That being said, seeing Dazzle and Pizzazz having this crazy sexual tension and constantly needing to get it on was quite funny and was a welcome change from their normal behaviour. Also how good were those music numbers? Dazzle and his band were so random and funny, but those reformed gangsters with the “Leaving the H” song, that was so unexpected and funny, I loved it. Just seeing those gangsters change their perspective on life and become good guys while the police were away was fun, but as usual when something good happens it has to be undone and in this case the police come back from Cop Con and fuck up everything. Oh but my favourite moment would be with Chrysalis in her panel with that one guy asking her out to prom, and went she said no his reply of “I have a condition where I hear no as yes, so I’ll see ya there.” That was frigging jokes. 😛

Star Wars Rebels (Season 2) “Wings of the Master”

This was the first major episode for Hera and one that didn’t focus heavily on Kanan, Ezra and Rex, and while I mainly like Star Wars in general for the Jedi, Sith, lightsaber battles and most forms of action, I do like it when this franchise can give me something I wouldn’t expect to enjoy and I end up really liking it. “Wings of the Master” was cool for several reasons like 1) It really showed off why Hera is an essential member of the Ghost team, I’ve never thought less of her before, but this episode really illustrated who she is, why she likes to fly and how good of a pilot she is too. I loved the way she described her need to fly and the fact that she got promoted to phoenix leader made me smile a lot. 2) I loved Quarrie as a character, he’s a little wacky, strange, but smart and wise, and sometimes characters like these can be annoying, but luckily he had just the right level of humour and seriousness, plus his ship was awesome and I’m curious what kind of upgrades he could give to the rebels. 3) The fact that Empire are starving people and killing fire pilots during the first run of food supplies really adds to the fact that there are pretty big stakes out there and there are people relying on the rebel alliance to survive. 4) The music in this episode was excellent, really heartfelt and I did get some Empire Strikes Back vibes from it. 5) Kanan’s line to Ezra, “It makes me feel better when I say it!” Best. Line. Ever. 😀

What I’m Currently Watching #12

Howdy ladies and gents, and welcome to post #12 on What I’m Currently Watching where I give you a tiny update on what TV-based stuff I’m watching and give mini reviews/impressions on them. So after last week’s post being delayed to Sunday, we’re back on track with the regular Friday schedule. With that out of the way let’s talk about some TV! 😀 Oh and careful for minor spoilers below…

Grimm (Season 5) “The Grimm Identity”

All I can say is FINALLY! Grimm is one of my favourite TV shows and is the last of my ongoing shows to return to air. After season 4 ended I couldn’t wait to see the next season, but knowing back in May that I’ve had to wait until around November for the show’s return just hurt me mentally. But the wait’s over and this episode did not disappoint. We picked up right where season 4 left off and so much happened as questions got answered, but new dangers and challenges were presented. Firstly I have to say David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt, this guy always brings it, and in this episode I loved Nick as he was aggressive, reckless and unhinged, and rightfully so; both his mother and former lover are dead and then some shady people come along take Trubel away and drug Nick. After the guy wakes up, the house is clean and no one’s there and with Chavez as his only tie to all this madness he’s on a hunt for vengeance and answers. And while he didn’t quite get his answers, we did discover that Chavez wasn’t the main bad guy but that there was someone scarier at play. It was also great to see Monroe, Rosalee, Hank and Wu together again and seeing them try to process Nick’s news and actions, oh and Bud was hilariously annoying as usual, though the more interesting part was with Adalind finally giving birth to her and Nick’s son. After all the drama that nick endured, you could see the amount of mixed emotions in his face, but in the end he confirmed he’d be there for his child and maybe for Adalind too, oh and liked how she named the child after Nick’s mum Kelly. I just want to know who the new bad guys are and where Trubel is, I need my girl back yo!

Supergirl “Stronger Together”

This was another decent episode, and while some of my issues from the last episode are still present and my early concerns about the show are starting to show up, otherwise, Supergirl is making small steps in the right direction towards becoming a good superhero TV show. What this episode does get right is the concept of Kara starting off small and learning the basics of being a superhero, from having doing smaller tasks and learning from her boss Cat Grant about not jumping into big things without gradual experience to Kara getting taught in combat and experiencing the harsher lessons of being a superhero under the spotlight of the world. It was also cool to have James and Winn come together and form this team with Kara similar to the teams in Arrow and The Flash, also I enjoyed the use of Alex and Hank more so than last week and seeing Astra come out of the shadows and confront Kara was good too. My issues with the episode go back to the presentation and ongoing story. The visual effects during the flying sequences seem awkward and choppy hopping from being fast to super fast with no smooth transition in speed, the rule applies to the fight scenes it’s just a bit jarring. Oh and that fight between Kara and Astra, I feel like that could have been a handled better, the wire-based fight in the air was painful to watch, I know it’s network TV but I would have preferred that whole thing to be CGI because it would have allowed for more fancy acrobatics. I also feel like the constant references and call backs to Superman aren’t necessary and feel heavy-handed much like the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I’m curious to see where this show will go in the future when it comes to more compelling villains and storylines as well.

The Flash “The Darkness and the Light”

This episode was a return to form for The Flash, last week was the first episode of season 2 that I wasn’t as keen on, but this week things were rectified as we got a very dramatic, layered and interesting story filled with character development and more mysteries being discovered. I really liked how Harrison Wells from Earth-2 was handled, he’s similar to the old Wells (Eobard), but he’s a lot more aggressive, blunt and as Cisco put it, a bit of dick. That being said he’s aware of his mistakes and is actively trying to rectify them by taking out the metahumans who are on Earth prime and he’s also trying to help Barry realise his full potential as the Flash. One other thing of note is that Wells has a daughter in Earth-2 and she’s being held captive by Zoom so I assume he’s here to help Barry get strong enough to take out Zoom which in turn will get his daughter back as well. This was also a big episode for Cisco as his powers were made known to his friends (unintentionally thanks to Wells) and I’m glad that happened because there’s only so long you can hold back these kinds of secrets. Seeing more of Jay Garrick was fun whether it be via flashback confronting Wells in Earth-2 or fighting Wells in present day, it’s always fun to see him around (besides when he and Caitlin snow are trying to form a relationship, I don’t care for that). Oh and finally Patty and Barry started this relationship of theirs, the blind date was odd but it did allow for some awesome Cisco dialogue which was hilarious.

Arrow (Season 4) “Haunted”

So here’s the Arrow episode I’ve been waiting for, it’s the return of John Constantine (Matt Ryan) from the former NBC show, Constantine. And this episode was good but not early as great as last week’s, the story didn’t play out how I expected but I was satisfied. Matt Ryan hasn’t lost a step as Constantine, he’s still charming, charismatic, odd and rough around the edges, but damn it he’s still cool as hell and it was interesting to see through the flashbacks how he came into contact with Oliver and how in the present he used his magical abilities to restore Sara’s soul to her body. Though I have to say this episode really didn’t have as much as Constantine as I’d hoped and I was just waiting for the just to show up in the present, but he didn’t show up until last act which sucked! Beyond all the great stuff with Constantine, I enjoyed seeing Sara all crazy on the hunt for her killer, who in this case was Thea, also while I normally don’t care for Laurel and her whining when it comes to Oliver’s double standards about secrets, this time she had legit reasons for calling him out and it is true she’s not been treated as an equal. But I am glad that all the issues between her and Oliver and Thea are starting to be ironed out quickly and are not being dragged out for several episodes. And finally I’m really enjoying Neal McDonough as Damien Darhk, he’s so witty, engaging and sinister and McDonough seems like he’s really having fun with the role.

Star Wars Rebels (Season 2) “Brothers of the Broken Horn”

“Brothers of the Broken Horn” was decent episode but is probably my least favourite so far. I’ve really been getting into the new story and characters that Rebels has been introducing with the old clones and new Inquisitors, but this episode sort of pushed that stuff aside for an Ezra-focused adventure where he and Chopper went off to help someone in need. While the episode as a whole wasn’t too captivating, it was good to further character development for Ezra as he not only questions whether he wants to be a Jedi or soldier, but it also allowed him to be heroic, tactical and show off his Jedi training with some nifty lightsaber moves and the use of the force. Oh and FINALLY he used the blaster part of his lightsaber, its like he’d forgotten that weapon had two functions until now. 😛 As for Hondo Ohnaka he was interesting character, on one hand I found him a little annoying and questionable in character, but on the other hand he was witty and funny especially in that scene when he was almost sucked into space and said “I’m rich!… I’m dead!” Best moment ever.
