Good day to you ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for Random Blog entry. And today I wanted to talk to you about a film that I saw earlier this week which has been on my mind for a few days as it was so bizarre that I just had to talk about it on this blog, and the film in question is Repo Chick.
So I was up late one night and this film showed up on TV, now normally I wouldn’t watch a random film on TV where I don’t know any of the actors/actress involved, but since I was working on Photoshop, I decided to leave it on because it was just going to be background noise. But as the film progressed I found myself becoming engrossed in the bizarre story.
So what is this film about? I don’t actually know, but the premise goes like this:
“As a repo chick, wealthy bad-girl Pixxi and her entourage get mixed up in a devious kidnapping plot that threatens to wipe out the city of Los Angeles.”
Here’s the trailer:
The film has a pretty simple premise but at one point Pixxi ends up in a situation where the story totally changes up and becomes something so much more complicated and random. And that’s one of the most compelling things about the film is its plot, for some reason, you know what you’re watching is silly, nonsensical and random as hell, and yet, it is because of those very reasons that you want to watch more, just to see how the story ends. There are incredible moments of humour to be found not only from the super cheesy dialogue but the crazy presentation. And I think it is time to mention the visuals. Holy macaroni, this film is the more insanely cheap productions I have ever seen. I don’t think that there was any actual real life locations as there was loads of green screen and visual effects used for the backgrounds and other things, some of the locations looked like they were constructed from some children’s toys and when you see these live-action sets blend with the green screen stuff, it looks incredibly cheap and laughable, however that is definitely part of the charm and the filmmakers seems very self-aware that aspect. The cast is all fine, I can’t hate on them because I believe that they knew what kind of film they are in for, but since I don’t know any of the cast or who some of their characters are, I can’t comment.
In conclusion Repo Chick is one of the most WTF films I have ever seen. It is very similar to the Robert Rodriguez’s Machete films, but on an even lower budget and a lower sense of quality. This is one of those kind of films that would work a lot better if you were drunk because when you’re sober, you pick the film apart and start to think and thinking is not something you want to do with this film. Some will hate this film, but for me, it is almost in that “so bad its good” department of film, but I think I’d like it more with friends and if I’m drunk.
