Favourite Songs #32: Bliss 66 – Not Quite Paradise

01 Jul

Howdy people of the interweb, and welcome to the 32nd edition of my series of blog posts dedicated to some of my favourite songs ever in life. Today I’m gonna talk about one of my favourite songs from my childhood and teenage years, “Not Quite Paradise” by Bliss 66.

Just have a listen to the tune below:

This is a beautiful song that has had left a massive impression on me since I was a kid and it is one of those songs that I have a massive a lot of nostalgic love for. Even though I don’t listen to it that often, when I do hear it, I feel happy.

I first came across this song probably around 2001 or 2002 when I saw Titan A.E. for the first time and it was one of the few things I remembered about the film. So then I saw it again in 2004 or 2005 and when I heard the song again I got super nostalgic and then got the song and fell in love all over again. This was one of my favourite jams in my teenage years until about the time I was 19 where I sort of went off and experimented with more types of music and so I didn’t come back to this song until I started university in the late part of 2011 and again I fell in love with the nostalgic awesomeness that is this song.

So why do I love this song so much. I think it is just because of the awesome vocals, rock guitars and the chorus. The chorus is my favourite part by far, it is just the way it is composed with the main and backing vocals, awesome music and the lyrics, the lyrics just make me feel a little happy and fuzzy inside. Lines like “Although it’s not quite paradise / It sure looks like home / Not quite paradise, but we are not alone / It’ll be alright, no it’s not quite paradise” or “Somewhere in the back of your mind / When you see your demons come to life / And the world just fades away, you know it’s okay” That stuff really makes me smile and touches my soul a little bit.

I don't know why but I always imagined this band looking a little cooler than this.

Now I don’t know that much about Bliss 66, I thought there’d be more on these in terms of music, but when I researched them online back in 2007/8 and found out that they were really low on the radar and hadn’t made any music since 2003 and had broken up I was surprised. But then there are some bands that can’t stand the test of time or are one-hit-wonders, but hey at least this song kicks ass.

So in conclusion “Not Quite Paradise” by Bliss 66 is a gorgeous song which works on both a nostalgic level and a good piece of music level too. If anything it is one of the best aspects of Titan A.E. and I recommend to you all to check out.

Well that’s another song review done, what do you think of my song choice today? Whatever your thoughts are leave me a comment below and be sure to come back next time for another song review yo! 😀

God, haven’t heard this one in awhile. Nor have I seen Titan A.E. in quite some time either.

Hi. Randomly came across this post while trying look up the name of one of a Bliss 66… Cheyenne (vocals) is a really good friend of mine, he has been leading other bands since the “Bliss days”. They aren’t are pop rock but still very good. The 2 main ones are “Paper street saints” and the most recent “Half light music”.
