Good day to you ladies and gentlemen, once again it is time for me to swing by and deliver a bit of films news that I feel is relevant and worth talking about and today’s news story is one that makes me grin. 🙂 The following information is from superherohype:
Legendary Pictures, which put up 75% of the money to make the film (Warner Bros. took care of the rest), is now Universal Pictures’ partner, but Legendary and Warner Bros. will team on the sequel again. It is assumed that director Gareth Edwards would return to direct.
Made for about $160 million, the film earned an impressive $196.2 million worldwide this weekend, with $93.2 million of that coming from the domestic box office and $103 million from international markets.
While there was no doubt in my mind that this sequel would happen, it’s always nice to get that official confirmation. Godzilla is one of those franchises that leads itself to sequels very well, I mean look at ALL those Toho films and with the way this film was being marketed, regardless of the box office I knew that another film would have to be on the cards… And now it is. Thankfully the new Godzilla film is raking in the money and even though the critic and fan response is mixed at best, I still feel like the positivity will outweigh the negativity and this film will go on to make more money in the coming weeks. For me this is just great news and super satisfying considering that I really liked Godzilla and hoped that there’d be a sequel some time in the future and now my dream is a reality. Good times. So what can they do for the sequel? Well that’s easy give us MORE GODZILLA! I really loved the new film but it could really use like 50% more Godzilla to stop the fickle audience members from complaining. Also give us a stronger script for the human characters or at least push them into the background, now don’t do a Pacific Rim and make the characters super boring, but at least make the humans interesting throughout or not at all. And lastly add another monster in for Godzilla to fight but make it one of the cool Toho monsters like Gigan or Anguirus, but save King Ghidorah for the third film! There’s your trilogy all planned out for ya.
