Good evening again people of the internet, I return to talk about the second bit of Marvel news as I promised in my last blog post about Captain America 2. The following info comes from superherohype:
“Evangeline Lilly is in talks to join the cast of Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man, Variety reports. The “LOST” and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug star is said to be up for a leading role in the July 17, 2015 release.
Although Lilly’s potential role is still a mystery, the trade suggests that she might either be playing a love interest to Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, the daughter of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, or both. There is the possibility, too, that the role in question is that of Janet Van Dyne, who in the comics was a romantic interest to Pym and the alter-ego of the winsome Wasp.
Set to begin production shortly in Georgia, Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).
The film, which is supposed to launch “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release.”
Well this is certainly interesting. Marvel seem to be in the business of casting very interesting actors and actresses for their films and as we have seen in the past most of their choices have paid off. While I’ve not seen Lily in anything outside of the last Hobbit film, I thought she was great in the film having a great screen presence and doing well in her action scenes, in addition to that I have her good things about her in her previous TV and film roles. As to who she’ll be, I think the obvious choice in Janet van Dyne aka Wasp, I mean who else could it be right? I might Marvel might pull a fast one on us, plus I’m not sure of how many females reside within the Ant-Man comics so there could be another female role or could be a made up character entirely. But I think it is safe to assume Lily could be Wasp and I would be down with that.
What do you lot think? Please leave your thoughts below yo. 🙂
