Marvel’s Avengers Assemble TV Trailer Review

22 May

Howdy friends of the universe, time for another trailer review and this one is on Marvel’s upcoming animated series Avengers Assemble.

Now before I get into the review let me just say one thing. It’s annoying to mention Avengers Assemble around people because loads of people think of it as the 2012 Avengers film as it was titled here in the UK, but now there’s a new animated TV show by the same name also out. So if you’re not in the know people are gonna get right confused. Point is the title of ‘The Avengers’ should have stayed true in every country regardless of that old british TV show. Anyways I was seriously getting sidetracked there, back to Avengers Assemble. Basically we have a new trailer for this upcoming cartoon show so let’s talk about it.

Check out the trailer below:

So what we have in this trailer is basically a preview of what to expect in the series and honestly, going from what I am seeing here I am not too impressed. Why? Because it feels like an imitation of The Avengers rather than a show that’s just borrowing its likeness. Granted it’s supposed to take cues directly from the 2012 film but here it just feels too blatant. But anyways moaning aside what’s actually on-show here?

Well we have shots of the individual members or the team together fighting, flying, kicking ass or posing. Standard fair really. Throughout this trailer you have Tony Stark narrating to the viewer and basically talking about the himself and his teammates, one of which he gets completely wrong by referring to Thor as the “Prince of Thunder” its “God of Thunder” yo. By the way I can’t believe that its Adrian Pasdar voicing Tony Stark/Iron Man, he sounds horrible here. He sounded way better in the Marvel Anime and Ultimate Spider-Man shows.

Now let’s talk about the presentation, for the most part it’s good. If I had one complaint about The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was that it wasn’t that detailed when it came to art design, luckily this show is packing much better and more detailed art design. It looks up to date and the animation while not as good as say Young Justice or to a lesser degree Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty decent. Oh and I love how there’s a rotating shot of the whole team just like the one in The Avengers… Yay. Can you sense my enthusiasm?

So as much as I want to like this show, there’s nothing to here that makes me excited for it. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was a good show, it was made for kids but also fans of the source material, it was a smart show. And I can’t help but feel like I’m losing a great show for a slightly better-looking one that’s dumbed down, a bit more generic and is feeding off of the success of the Avengers film. I hate to sound so negative at this point and if this show is awesome I will take back every bad comment, but as it stands it will take a hell of a lot for this show to win me over.

In conclusion I’m going to give Avengers Assemble a chance, however I wish it would try to be more of its own thing and stop relying so hard on the novelty of the Avengers film. I know it’s meant to relate the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it just isn’t as cool. I dunno I guess I’ll watch the first episode online soon enough and then see what happens.

It does look questionable in content, I’m gonna give it a watch and if it doesn’t get interesting by at least the fifth episode I’ll abandon ship!
