Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve Talk About Star Trek Into Darkness

17 Dec

Even though I watched the interview with these two at least two or three days ago before this article on superherohype got put, I thought I might as well post it on my blog now that some good soul out there has put the interview on YouTube so I don’t have to use the horrible IGN player to try to embed the video into my blog (which normally doesn’t work anyway). Anyways here’s the follow article from superherohype:

“Last week, it was revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing ‘John Harrison’ and Alive Eve will be Carol Marcus in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (if you missed today’s new extended trailer, check it out by clicking here). The pair were on hand after the film’s prologue was screened to talk about the film and you can check out the interview below (via IGN).

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 17, the film also stars John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Peter Weller.

The film finds the crew of the Enterprise called back home where they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization that has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

The film has also launched a new viral website at There’s currently no content outside of the ability to register for updates, but that will likely be changing in the very near future. You can access the site by clicking at the banner at the bottom of the page.”

Regardless of who these characters are and what their relations are to Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan I am excited for this film, the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is in the film is more than enough reason for me to be even more hyped than I was before. I do hope the material for this next Star Trek film will be original and won’t be hiding some secret from the audience until we watch the film like the whole Talia Al Ghoul thing from The Dark Knight Rises, but I can’t help but feel like the filmmakers may just pull a fast one on us and just say near the film’s release, “Oh yeah Cumberbatch’s character is Khan after all.” If they dare, man, the word disappointed won’t even cover it. Unless the film is that amazing that it makes me forget about that glaring issue. Let’s just hope that doesn’t come to pass.
