Star Wars: Episode VII For 2015! What The Heck!?!

31 Oct

Now I know people on the internet likes to joke about things and we all like to have a good laugh about impossible things happening in the real world… However it’s not funny when those jokes turn into real life! I was looking around on Empire Online and I saw the scariest words as the headline, “Star Wars: Episode VII For 2015” I was like “No fucking way!” But it seems like this is actually going ahead, this is real, this is frigging reality! Take a look at the original article from Empire Magazines online website below:

“Today we felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in disbelief… And were silenced by hard truth. Yes, Walt Disney has gone on another acquisition mission, buying up Lucasfilm for the handsome sum of kee oto* But the even bigger news to come out of the announcement? The companies are planning a new entry in the Star Wars franchise for 2015.

The jokes, of course, came almost as fast as the questions of whether it was actually true. But it is, and George Lucas himself was part of the announcement.

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said Lucas, chairman and CEO of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.

“I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”

While the move remains somewhat shocking, it’s not entirely surprising, especially since Disney bought Marvel and Lucas announced he was stepping back from filmmaking to shepherd other projects.

But the new film is only part one of the strategy. Snuck into word that Kennedy will slide into the president’s job at Lucasfilm, comes this little nugget: “Star Wars Episode VII  is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.” And in a follow-up investor’s call about the move, it was announced that the seventh film would be the first in a new trilogy, with releases aimed at roughly every two to three years. The treatment for the first of the three is already in hand.

Nothing is known about the new movies yet, but of course we’ll keep you advised. Also, anyone else think this might finally mean the long-planned, already-written live-action Star Wars TV show might finally go ahead? Even if that’s still too ambitious, expect a wealth of telly, toy and theme park releases.”

All I can say damn you Disney! Such a money-hungry company. First you take Marvel, now Lucasfilm. Will you never be satisfied? I think most fans of the Star Wars film series were done with the films after the prequel trilogy came out and thought that making additional films would be a ridiculous idea. I mean while there is a wealth of source material to work with from the novels and comic books, I still don’t think new Star Wars films would be the right way to go. Now I am one of the few people who like part of the prequel films, while Phantom Menace wasn’t the best way to start the Star Wars saga, it did have great spectacle, an awesome soundtrack and some the bes lightsaber fights ever! Whereas no one really cares about Attack of the Clones, however I did really like Revenge of the Sith, I thought that was pretty darn cool, the visuals and soundtrack was amazing and the story was much better because of its connection to the original films. However everyone knows that the prequel films don’t hold a candle to the orignal films and if any studio would try to make new Star Wars films I feel like they would continue to tarnish the magic of the original source material. That’s why I believe any more films would be disaster waiting to happen.

I just have to ask who thought this was a good idea? What was George Lucas thinking? Why do Disney continue to consume all of these smaller companies in order to make more money? Has the world finally just given up on logic and decided to throw us a number crazy scenarios just to see how we’ll react? All I know is this is weird and wrong and really hope all of this new Star Wars stuff doesn’t come to pass.
